Re: I miss the '80s

There was a game show on MTV called "Remote Control" that was fun as hell.

I hate MTV with a passion now, and hold them single handedly responsible for the downfall of TV. If it wasn't for the shitty "Real World" we wouldn't have all the other crap "reality" shows.

Re: I miss the '80s

MTV... 120 minutes & head-banger's ball! Back then we taped it on VHS - no dvd's or Tivo then.

Re: I miss the '80s

I was 10 in '68. I miss the innocence of the '60s and '70s. Us kids never had to worry about a stranger grabbing us, or drive-by's, or gangs, etc.
But the '80s music was great. My TV was always turned to MTV from the time I got home from work until I went to bed. There was some music in the '60s I liked, and a lot more in the '70s, but the '80s rocked.

SuperDave Challenges Mr T. "Where'd ya get your hait cut, at a pet shop?"...

Re: I miss the '80s

I miss the big hair on the ladies the most. I was in high school in the height of big hair 87-90... it was awesome! You'd smell white rain and then start looking for a pretty girl. I Love just thinking about it!

Summer in the 80's for me: MUSIC! Everything from Metallica to the Cure and everything in-between, Rubics cube, Atari, pacman and the arcade, slip and slides, baseball, summers that last forever, and going to work with my Pop on Saturdays and hanging out all day on Ft Bragg... he was SF and was always testing crazy com shit so he would throw me the keys to the family Honda and say "don't get it stuck". He had a different risk profile from the other Dads in the neighborhood. I learned to drive at age 8
smile.gif

One thing I don't miss from the 80s: Shoulder pads on the ladies... I always thought that was the dumbest thing I'd ever seen.

Still recovering from the '70's. Great music but the styles were a low point in the history of this nation.

I made an incorrect statement in 1985 and its the wrongest I've ever been. I said "This rap music shit is a flash in the pan, it'll be gone before we know it." It was about the time that Run DMC and Aerosmith did that song together.

Re: I miss the '80s

Camaro hair all teased up and tight jeans, tall boots, hot.

The low cut jean thing just does nothing for me, and every chick thinks she looks good in them. Hot chicks are still hot.
For a slightly bigger gal that would still look good in some 80s jeans, muffin top and plumbers cleavage are serious side effects...YUK! If she isn't perfect low cut jeans prove it. That can be good or bad I suppose.

I miss buying gas for my 68 Camaro at like 79 cents (Give or take). It was still cheap enough to hammer down whenever you wanted to.
I miss going into old country stores and getting the tall soda pop bottles and some pop rocks but that was more in the late seventies into the early eighties.
I miss all the American made stuff , before this invasion of cheap chinese disposable junk.

Re: I miss the '80s

I remember Jim Bruer as "goat boy" on SNL doing a skit called "remember the 80"s"

kids rolled the bottom of their pants, what the hell was that about?

Re: I miss the '80s

I'm 65, and I enjoyed it all. But I don't miss any of it.

I try to live my life in the present, and to put my energy into making that present the best so far.

Looks as if I'm getting a little better at that.

We liked Shilen and Hart
No such thing as Badger or Nightforce that I knew of.
A good trigger was Canjar.
Hi-Cap was a Browning Hi-Power but we didn't really know what to do with them so we shot slicked-up Clark Smith&Wesson Mod10, 19 revolvers. 1911 was King.

Re: I miss the '80s

80's were great. I'll confess...I had my share of Sex-drugs-rock n roll.

I wouldn't change a thing...Good post.

Re: I miss the '80s

Yup, GT was a 5.0. I liked the black ones and white ones.

IROC's were hot too. Was that an acronym for something?

Okay, I confess too. In fact I tacked on another ten years and didn't quit til 01 I was having so much fun......now, the wreckage of the past.

Re: I miss the '80s

I miss all the great hair bands and music. Since then there have been flashes of good music but nothing as prolonged as the 80's.

Re: I miss the '80s

I got this off Wikepedia. Appears accurate.

Beginning in 1983 and peaking in success in 1986-1989, the decade saw the resurgence of hard rock music and the emergence of its pop metal subgenre. Bands such as Queen(band), Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Bon Jovi, Quiet Riot, Europe, Ratt, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake, and Cinderella were among the most popular acts of the decade. The 1980s saw the emergence of wildly popular hard rock band Guns N' Roses and the successful comebacks of Aerosmith and Alice Cooper in the late 1980s. The success of hard rock act Van Halen spanned throughout the entire decade, first with singer David Lee Roth and later with Sammy Hagar. Queen, which had expanded its music to experimental and crossover genres in the early 1980s, returned to guitar-driven hard rock with The Miracle in 1989. Additionally, a few women managed to achieve stardom in the 1980s' hard rock scene: Pat Benatar, which had been around since the late 1970s, is a prime example of female success in hard rock, and so are both ex-Runaways Joan Jett and Lita Ford.
The Arena rock trend of the 1970s continued in the 1980s with bands like Styx, Rush, Journey, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon, ZZ Top, and Aerosmith which were popular into the early 1980s, with hair metal taking their place later.

Metallica, 2003
Traditionally associated (and often confused) with Hard rock, heavy metal was also extremely popular throughout the decade, with Ozzy Osbourne achieving success during his solo career ; bands like Judas Priest, Dio and Iron Maiden were also widely popular acts. Speed metal pioneer Motörhead maintained its popularity through the releases of several albums. Underground scenes produced an array of more extreme, aggressive Metal subgenres: thrash metal broke into the mainstream with bands such as Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, and Megadeth, while other styles like death metal and black metal remaining subcultural phenomena.
The decade also saw the emergence of a string of guitar virtuosi, influenced by guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen ; Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen achieved international recognition for their skills. While considerably less numerous, bass guitar virtuosi also gained momentum in the 1980s : Billy Sheehan (of David Lee Roth and Mr. Big fame), Cliff Burton (of Metallica) and alternative/funk metal bassist Les Claypool (of Primus fame) became famous during that period.
Both Hard rock and Heavy metal were extremely popular live genres and bands toured extensively around the globe.
