Gunsmithing I need some smithing tools

    Hey guys,im looking for a smaller size laythe and drill press to do some of my own work but i have no idea what is good or bad.Im not looking to spend a fortune on it because its just to learn on and its for little minor jobs at home.I understand that you get what you pay for but im not looking to buy the best right now.

    #1 wheres a good place to find this kind of stuff for sale

    #2 whats a good price

    Before you spend the money on this, go spend $250 and take a sememster of introduction to machining and metal working at your local community college.

    This will save you a ton of time and money, easily worth the $250 IMO.

    Ask your instructor that same question. For a couple beers and lunch, they might even come along on a trip to look at a machine when you get around to buying one.

    Also, let's say you get a nice lathe for $1k. You're going to spend $2k in tooling I can guarantee it.

    grizzly g4003g lathe is very nice. I have done some really nice barrels on mine. Its $3,000 shipped but then I have $5,000 in reamers and more in other tools.

    +1, besides, the shop teacher just might know someone who is unloading some quality used gear......
    (I taught basic machining/welding at the local college for a while...)
