My wife and I both have relatively basic websites. The primary reason they are basic is because I built them using MS Frontpage and I barely muddle through it.

We have been using APlus for our hosting for several years. For the past year or so they continue to make changes to "things" on their end and we continually are unable to update our websites. It seems as soon as we relearn the new way they change something again and act like we're idiots because we can't follow the techie fucksticks with their latest and greatest changes.

All I want to do is to be able to edit the websites using MS Frontpage, publish the changes and not have to have a masters degree in programming to do it. Doesn't seem like it would be too much to ask. Is it? Can anyone recommend another service we could use? My wife is about to beat me to death with my boots if she doesn't get her website updated very soon and APlus is about as helpful as a dead hunting dog.

I don't have a problem with the MS Frontpage. I already own it and have a decent idea how to use it. Just need to find a simple way to host the sites so we can update them without it being a three day ordeal.

Godaddy can provide hosting services with Frontpage extensions.
Another one I have used is AMHosting.

After you have hosting setup, shop for a template.
It doesn't have to be a FrontPage template, but it can be less trouble that way.

http://www.frontpage-templates.org/

With that out the way, let me ask you, if I may, what you're doing with the sites?
If you're not doing e-commerce from the site, I suggest you look at switching over to Facebook for either personal or business sites.

With Facebook, you can post updates, specials, and other relevant information instantly from any computer or phone.

I've seen it do wonders for restaurants, clubs, and organizations that put effort into keeping the content fresh and pertinent to what they're doing.

The added bonus with Facebook is that your audience spreads virally.

For example, let's say that I have 200 friends on Facebook and I "Like" your page.
My 200 friends instantly get notified that I did that and then they are presented with a link to your page, which they can in turn "Like" as well.

Post photos and videos. Manage content dynamically and instantly with no knowledge of HTML and no hosting and registration fees.

Facebook is a little too wide open by default, but you can easily control who sees what and who can post what your pages.

At over 500 million users, it's the way to go.

Phylo, does your hosting plan have the option for frontpage extensions and are they enabled? If so, you should be able to just open your page in frontpage, edit them, click save and it changes the pages hosted by Aplus.

The big thing you seem to be looking for in a hosting plan is frontpage extensions, it makes life way easier for the simple changes than using ftp.

Re: I need some website help/advice

They were there and in place about a month ago when my wife updated her site last. Yesterday she tried again and it's no longer working. That's what has become so frustrating. I call them and they act like I'm an idiot who has no clue what he is doing (not far off of the mark, lol) before they'll finally open a ticket on it and have someone look into it. This has been an ongoing saga with them for some time now and I'm fed up with it.

Hoping there's a better option out there for the relatively uneducated. I don't have a clue how to go in and enable extensions. I just want a hosting company who will help me get it set up and working then leave shit the hell alone.

I appreciate the help guys

Re: I need some website help/advice

My band registered our domain name through whatever was cheapest at the time (like GoDaddy.com only it was like $1.99 or something), and we use www.3ix.com to host our site. It's pretty easy, once you create your account and login, you use the domain name you registered and then start uploading your html files you created in Frontpage to your File Manager. It's so easy, I can do it. This is what our page looks like (for the next 7 days at least - we're calling it quits and letting our cycle expire Sept. 30). All I did was create the pages in Nvu (like Frontpage but free), then copied the html over to the File Manager and created the addresses.
