Was hoping that some of you might have cleaver ways of camouflaging trash dumper surveillance cameras that I will be installing. Open area where they come in to dump doesn't have a lot of good hiding spots. Mounting high on trees would be pretty visible, so I was thinking that ground level would be the best to prevent theft.

As I mentioned previously on another post I use double face tape covering all the camera except the lenses and attach bark and/or vegetation to the tape. Blends amazingly well with the surroundings.

Camera with dull paint and make sure no flash or red light emissions.

Good luck

No red light or flash at night is critical. Have you considered in grass along the road? Attach to a stake on the ground so it does not move and place grass (or other vegetation around it. Under a plant on a stake works well also.

Mount it inside a box or can, with a hole for the lens to see through. You could even put this inside a trash bag with other boxes or empty milk jugs. The idea is to disguise it as trash, so it blends with what’s already there at ground level. Be sure you can still get a clear shot of license plates at the elevation you use.

Our local MBI (Metropolitan Bureau of Investigations - they work mid level drugs & vice) guys have made an art of concealing cameras.
AT&T “call before you dig” and any other phone company pedestals along the road, any box hanging on a nearby phone or power pole, Utility & traffic control looking devices…….

bird houses work great for hidden camera's

fake leaves in tree's no one running through your yard at night or daytime is going to look for a tiny camera trail cams on trees another great idea . now the laser tracking turrets mounted on your roof might throw up a few red flags but they did not belong on your property so who cares what they think

I would think that a big and blatantly obvious camera and mount would deter people from using the dumpster.... and then you wouldn’t have to bother reporting license plate numbers?

I set a lot of cameras. It is simply amazing how unobservant the average human is. Many ideas above are excellent. Also consider some cheap or dummy cameras in obvious places.

Great ideas here. Just for additional thoughts, why not one of those 5gal buckets from the deli. Paint with camo pattern, and add native growth. Put camera in and seal with a lid (lid being on the bottom to keep critters out, small holes for ventilation on sides).
You could also try fake rock, if the terrain wouldn't make it look out of place. Snakes would be a problem though, unless you can seal the bottom. Spray the rock to local color and add some moss/leaves.

I have used a 40oz old english 800 plastic bottle with brown paper bag and deer camera slipped inside with a small window cut in bottle. Works amazing around dumpsters and alleys.. let me see if I have a pic.

Thanks for all of the great ideas you folks have come up with. Maybe I should upload a picture of the site where they are dumping. It's kind of open area with large trees and not a lot of underbrush. Fake rock or a plastic bucket might work with camo as suggested and thrown in with the trash. Anything mounted on a tree would probably be seen, but the fake camera idea might serve as a deterant. Call it a sacrificial.
