I have a blued Remington 700 (very shiny and deep, even for how old it is), probably from the 80's. It is chambered in .308, has a wood stock with the ebony fore arm tip and a cheek rest. Nothing special there. What is different is that it has a Remington stamped and marked barrel that is 24 inches long with a pretty heavy profile, ~.84 at the muzzle.

It came into the store I work at from a sheriffs department for a trade of some sort. I was going to true the action along with the bolt, cut the barrel down a little and re-chamber it, and have it put in a B and C stock and call it good and go heat it up. No reason not to do this is there? None of the modern 700 rifles are "collectible", but I have never seen one like this (for all I know, a lot of them came this way). Anybody know what it is?

I can post a picture, but its just plane vanilla with a old non tilting Harris and a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x.

Thanks.
