Took a few rifles to the range today to verify zero with a new lot of ammo before coyote season. Anyway I believe these marks appeared with last rifle and the last group of ammo I shot. Can’t confirm this because I couldn’t find all the brass after shooting each rifle. I was in a pasture with tall grass. Any ideas what these are?

Give us some info on the rifle. Factory or custom. I would say a damaged reamer or crap on the reamer. Do you have access to a bore scope or can you see the inside of your chamber. Contact who you purchased the rifle from.

Aero upper with faxon match series barrel. Ammo was Australian outback 69smk I believe. Had just shot the Aussie outback 55gr blitzking and it didn’t have these marks.

Chamber could be scarred, but more likely it is the quality of the ammo. The case wall could be thinner in the scarred area as the case expands when fired causing imprint on case from the chamber. Definitely scope it for damage check of the chamber. Just my thoughts...

Furs are blued out by now. You are two months late.

That is a rough chamber. It looks ike they dragged a big chip down the chamber. I have seen several Savages with brass that came out looking exactly the same. Since its not deep enough to mechanically lock the brass in the chamber, I would either polish the chamber a little, or do nothing.

Tooling marks from the reamer. I have a barrel that does that. I have also seen a few Faxon barrels with less than desirable finishes.

I had a 6.5 Grendel Liberty/Satern buttoned rifled barrel from Brownells that exhibited similar markings on the brass and would have failures to extract ever now and then. I sent it back and they refunded me no questions asked. It was kind of a shame because accuracy was very good with factory Hornady Black 123gr.
