Do I need to change the recoil system? I have a DPMS sweet 16" with an adjustable carbine stock. I'd like to put a premium 20" barrel on. Will the current buffer and spring work with the longer barrel and gas tube?

No expert, but with the carbine carbine buffer, your forced to use the carbine buffer. I'd try and run an H1 or H2 carbine buffer and you should be gtg.

H2 works really well...

Agreed, the buffer is related to the buttstock. You will go to a rifle length gas system with the 20" barrel: all goodness. The frosting on the cake would be to go with an A1/A2 buttstock and standard buffer.

No reason to go to a H1/H2 on the buffer. The carbine buffer is heavier than the rifle buffer anyway. Your cyclic rate will be slower with the 20" gas system, which is usually a good thing.

If you are just going to swap the upper, just drop it in and go. If you are going to do the barrel swap on your upper, you will obviously need a new gas tube and new handguards.

Thanks for the replies, if I understand correctly, the recoil system is related only to the stock used and not to the barrel length. My original worry was that the longer gas system would not run correctly with the carbine stock and recoil system. It appears from your responses that I just need to have the correct buffer and spring for the stock I am running. Thanks Jeff
