What would you do with it?

Time is a valuable commodity, but right now I'm in a position where I have a lot of it, and trying to figure out the best way to capitalize on it.

I recently got my green card (I'm a Canadian citizen), and I am waiting until April to activate it. Until then, I'm stuck in Canada, while my wife and house is in the US. I currently have a work schedule that is 2 weeks on/2 weeks off.

Normally I would be at the house in AZ getting stuff done, but with this green card stuff I'm stuck in Canada until April, with plenty of time on my hands on my 2 weeks off.

A couple of thoughts on what to do:
- workout more
- learn Spanish
- catch up with friends and family
- ???

What would you do if you all of a sudden found yourself with a bunch of time?

Fly from Canada to Meheeco, walk across the border into California, declare yourself an "undocumented Democrat." Cali Dems will give you a hero’s welcome. Enjoy free healthcare, education, welfare, driver’s license, etc. All courtesy of the taxpayers. Cut right through that green card BS.

Apparently a lot of coyotes smuggle people through the Canadian border, it's the largest unprotected border in the world.

Technically I could just walk across like the smugglers do ;)

On a more serious note, I would learn some Spanish if you can. Especially living in AZ it will come in handy. I would chill as much as possible and do outdoor winter activities that you won’t be doing in AZ (skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, etc.). Lived in Glendale for a year. It was nice, but the brutal heat sent me packing. I’m near the Canadian border now and the weather suits me much better.

Run for mayor, and try to revolutionize local politics. Among other things.

Downtime is always a good time for learning. From writing a book (even if it never sees the light of day it will polish communication skills) to Reading about history, STEM learning, or skills tangential to your current career path knowledge is always a good investment.

So what I'd do is ;
More reloading
More range time
More airsoft
Pick up my bass and jam
Wood working projects
The house always needs or could use
Hang with my son
Hang with the wife
Hike and camp
Oh and I owe @Veer G a box of Yum Yum doughnuts .

Agree with reading more as the idiot box IMO opinion has been instrumental in the downfall of intellectual development at least in this country. There is good programming if you look hard for it, but most of it is simply useless garbage like eating empty calories. As was mentioned seems like Spanish would be a great toolbox addition.

I've honestly thought about getting into politics, because I hate what politics has become and want to do my part to roll the tide back.

Between the perversion of the Constitution, and politicians looking to empower themselves, their parties and their highest paying lobbiests while largely ignoring the wishes of their constituents really pisses me off.

I especially hate it when politicians try to "save us from ourselves" with their "progressive" reforms. These motherfuckers forget who they work for, US.

I have been doing some reading. I love reading, Michael Crichton is probably my favorite author.

Just finished reading The Haunted Mesa by Louis L'Amour. Excellent book, actually found out about it by a member here in the 'hide!

Now I'm reading a book about the history of the narcotics trade and the cartels in Mexico, it's called El Narco.

Yep. I’ve um walked across and back myself several times. Nobody around in lots of places. Super easy to go from Canada to Alaska Lol. Crossing over into the northern US is stupid easy in certain areas tht im not going to mention. It’s rather sad and frankly, the Canadians I’ve run into don’t give a shit as long as they are passing through their country and into ours.

From someone that is in the USA on a green card too, go travel Canada, visit the places you always wanted but never prioritized ,
Visit friends and family....after you move there will be a lot of times you will say that you should have done this or that while you still lived there.

Indeed. Canada is a beautiful country, especially the western half!

It's a lot of fun. I start so much shit that the police department and council are actually starting to take my advice.

The people, to an extent, are also catching on.
