So in NYC, they are about to close 700 hotels. 80 percent of 60,000 hotel workers will be laid off next week. A significant percentage of them are undocumented. They will have no checks coming in. No unemployment.

Wonder if life back South of the Border is going to look more attractive? Or if they are going to turn into roving gangs of Bankok tourist-monkeys and turn NYC into a bloodbath?

There are a lot of interesting scenarios playing out.

If I were a betting man, I would bet that beginning in the next few weeks... huge tax breaks for pharmaceutical companies to open plants in economic hub zones... Big incentives for companies to move out of China for manufacturing. Apple Plants in Detroit... Bayer Aspirin made in NJ again... medical devices made in RTP and Syracuse again.

Made in China is becoming like "Made in Japan" in 1942.

The downside is that 1+ billion people in a crashing Asian economy with nuclear weapons is concerning, too. How does Xi, the dictator now, react when his economy goes into free fall? Clean up his act and join the World of Economic nations? Or plan for Pearl Harbor and the Greater East Asian co-Prosperity Sphere? It's been tried...

In other words, the tax base is smaller as well.

its not just tax breaks its the regs and payroll

if it was just taxes every manufacturing plant would move to a state with no income tax, property taxes are irrelevant when your talking big companies

there is only so much you "cannot take" before your down to COGS and payroll, thats where the 3rd world comes in

like taking all the money from the millionaires, after the govt spends that money where are they taking it next no where...stop spending

Salary range is from US$250 to about US$450 per month for a factory worker in a large city, and less than $200 inland

then add that the chinese government pays for the building so initial costs are almost free, we know raw material suppliers who have built buildings in other provinces. they pay almost nothing

the only way to get Made in America is getting the government involved and floating the bill...sounds alot like AOC and Sanders or chop unions, and start polluting the rivers and oceans like they do.

The Mrs & I just made a quick food run & a tour of town to see what is happening. The University is shut down, of course all the restaurants, & NO ICE CREAM!

The local housing authority has a building devoted to outreach which is for all the illegals that speak Spanish. They offer after school care, summer camp, free services, and now meals handed out. Today we noticed a nice line at the door waiting for care packages. Many if not most illegals do the yard / restaurant services.

So far we are pretty safe but I sleep with one eye open and the alarm system is always active. Unfortunately, our GSD passed in 2010. She would sleep with both ears up & one eye open. If ANYTHING came near the yard / house she would get put her paw on me to shake me & not make a sound. I miss a German Shepard.

This is why I say the ship has sailed...China is also on its way out. Matter of a few years before Vietnam and Laos is up and running

Vietnam is already taking business away from China for about 5-6 years.

They are but they need massive infrastructure improvements to allow things to really grow. I like Vietnam a lot. I have been to Hanoi a number of times. People are great and prices are LOW. You can have a fabulous evening out for less than $50.
