I saw this recently, and I MUST have one! I can no longer be happy with a standard 1911 drop-in or semi drop-in magwell

I believe it was done by Roger's precision, and it sounds like he is currently not accepting new work. I'm pretty good with tools and using my hands, and I'd like to think if I took my time with files, sandpaper, stones, and judicious use of a Dremel, I could achieve a similar result. Anyone recognize the host magwell? I would prefer to use a Smith Alexander one piece magwell/msh. ANY input or suggfestions would be appreciated, especially as to how he got the grip panels flush. Also, am I being stupid? Should I just find a competent smith to do this for me, suck it up, and pay for it?

The plan is to put it on a Springfield MC Operator with VZ double diamond green and black flat bottom grips.

The S&A magwells are nice to use. They do have one flaw and that is sometimes they have a space at the bottom between the frame and magwell. There are some tips on how to solve this but the best one I have seen so far is redrilling the hole on the magwell. The other example I saw was a magwell with no hole drilled in it yet.

I would put money that the base magwell he used/uses is a flat unfinished one. I have one out in my parts box that has enough meat on the back that it can be milled flush and checkered with just about any frame.

#1 thing when working on 1911's is PUT DOWN THE DREMEL...

Files, and sand paper are where its at. I have primarily used S&A's on just about every 1911 I have built/modified cause they turn out nice. The example your lookin at might have been a turd when he started but his skills are pretty well top shit. I am pretty sure he has a post somewhere on there going through the steps he does for these. It starts with the mating and making sure there is no movement. Then if I am remembering right he uses a mill to get the base angle and finishes with files and paper. Its been a while since I read it but its on there somewhere.

look up the chen magwell, 10-8 magwell, nighthawk t3 magwell, its all in who you have do the work. My rail gun is getting a mars mag well which is welded to the frame, looks like the 10-8 but there is no interior lines just a smooth transition.

Very nice 1911 Joe - has Hilton Yam written all over it

Not overly showy, but it looks very functional, and I really like that look in a 1911. Thanks for sharing.
