The image in a rifle scope must be near image. By that I mean it requires your eyes to focus some 12" to 20" away. In fact, if you think about it, the image MUST be at the reticle because both the reticle and image are in focus. I'll admit I'm no expert and could be wrong. Anyone know for sure?

What makes you think your eyes are focusing 20" away? Why don't you just take a picture through a scope and see where the camera has to focus to get the reticle?

You're looking at the reticle through a bunch of lenses. It may be inches away but that isn't where you are focusing.
