So I haven't loaded any of this up yet. My buddy swears IMR 4350 is too temperature sensitive for us here in AZ. He tells me to use H4350 as it is much more stable. Said he learned from experience on the 2. I have a case of IMR that I want to try, but he says don't waste my time. I trust him, but I also don't want to keep it on the shelf and buy more powder just because he says to. What are all y'alls opinion on this? Thanks so much!

I have used both IMR4350 and H4350 loading .260 Rem but only a limited amount as I'm still working up a load. The only thing I can say is that given identical powder charges, in my experience anyway, the IMR4350 powder was slightly faster and I reached pressure signs slightly earlier than H4350. I've heard H4350 is more temp stable and that is what I'm using now, but I've had a harder time finding H4350 vs IMR4350.

Sorry, I didn't answer your question but I thought I would pass along what little info I have.

I've used both, and while IMR is a bit more temp sensitive (and faster, as previously noted), from a function perspective, it works well too. Just don't decide on a load near the top end and you'll be fine. Just pick the next accuracy node down. The CM doesn't need to be run hot and hard to achieve great accuracy.

JMTCW...

BTW, this is the other reason current temp is kept in your dope book (not just for air density, but also for load behavior/shift).

That helps for sure. Because you have used both and didn't say stay away from IMR. Thx!

Great points. And good to know because I really don't want to run it at the top.
And since I'm new to reloading (and rifles in general just this year) I have found the major importance of a log book. Thank you!

I've used both in my 6 Creedmoor, and I will vehemently disagree with Dentite, H4350 is faster burning than IMR4350, just shot both yesterday and 41.8-41.9grs IMR produced the same velocity as 41.6grs H4350, results: 41.9grs IMR4350- 3030, 3037, 3044, 3044, 3016. 41.6grs H4350-3037, 3044, 3044, 3051, 3079. Used to shoot IMR4350 when I lived in Vegas at 1 grain off max, it shot very well, I would not worry about sensitivity, H4350 will raise your pressure if it gets hot, too.

I too was worried about using imr4350 instead of h4350. In ohio we can have 20* temp swings in a day. I have had no problems in my 260 i say use it and dont look back.

IMR4350 is #114 and H4350 is #115 on the Hodgdon burn rate chart. that would make IMR4350 just ever so slightly faster (if any at all). I shoot RL17 in my 6.5CM and it is not supposed to be any better in the temp sensitivity arena that IMR4350. It has never been an issue for me. Maybe my temps don't get as high as AZ but the damn humidity will suck the life out of you here in AL.

So you had a different experience than I did with your reloads than I did with my reloads. You got an average of 0.5% difference between the two powders. I said IMR was slightly faster "in my experience". I made no statement that IMR was universally faster under all conditions.

I don't think that's cause for "vehemently" disagreeing.

I do appreciate you posting your results...it confirms that they are very close to each other in burn rate.

Somebody has to put some drama into the thread, hahaha
