Ok not sure if that has been discussed before but I am interested in hearing from shooters who have tested the two against one another and can help me understand if the Hodgdon powders being more temperature resistant over the IMR powders, if it is truly that big of a difference maker. I am asking because I have a lot of IMR right now and not looking forward to replacing it if I don't have to.

I am gearing up for competition shooting and in the process of finding the go to load.

I am loading for a 260 so right now the dispute would be between IMR4350 or H4350 (interested in hearig about other powder choices as well)

I appreciate all input.

Thank you!

Re: IMR vs Hodgdon Powders

If you have a bunch of IMR4350, I would say run with it. Just keep in mind you might need to tweak your loads a little bit more than if you ran H4350. Honestly, I do not think it will be a deal breaker.

Good Shooting,
Gary

Re: IMR vs Hodgdon Powders

Thanks...yeah I am going to work loads from 41.5 to 43.0 I plan on going in .5 increments with 140 Amax and 142 Match kings and tweak it from there if needed. Going with a 2.820 OAL which is getting pretty close to the max length my magizine will except and still off the lands.

I'll find out tomorrow when I start to pull the trigger.

Re: IMR vs Hodgdon Powders

IMR seems more popular with shooters in more temperate climes. You might enjoy IMR in New Jersey. I never liked having a summer load and a winter one so perhaps you can find one load that is a little mild during hunting but safe when its 90* out. Now would be a good time to find the high end of your charge wieght.

Good luck

LOL...i was just in Annapolis for the first time two weeks ago! Awesome place.

Re: IMR vs Hodgdon Powders

I'd say shoot what you got but when you run out go to H4350. It is more stable as far as temp.

A little story about H4350. I received my .243 in Dec a few years back. Had to work up a load in the teens and 20's Jan/Feb in CT to be shot in 70+ degree south TX in March. Got my load worked up and it was right on as far as velocity when I shot it in TX. The Hodgdon Extreme line, which H4350 is one, is the real deal when it comes to temp stability.

Re: IMR vs Hodgdon Powders

I ordered some of the extreme powder and I am hoping that I will only have to tweak the loads slightly when I change powders eventually. I will first use up the IMR but will switch over as long as it shoots as well or better.

I apprecaite feedback.

Re: IMR vs Hodgdon Powders

I have been using H4350 in my 6.5x55 with good results. However, I have recently tried H100v in my 6.5x55. I get the same MV with just 1 gr. less and it measures out of a RBCS 1500 Charge Master like nobodies business. It saves me time when loading so, it has replaced the H4350 for me.

Re: IMR vs Hodgdon Powders

H100V isn't one of the Extreme line and will show a little more temp sensitivity so just watch that.

25MAN make sure to check for the load difference when changing to H4350 because the IMR4350 and H4350 aren't exactly interchangable as far as data.

Re: IMR vs Hodgdon Powders

yeah I have the Hornandy "Lock n Load" and it is awesome. it has poured 50 rounds of IMR 4350 without a single over pour thus far. very excited about it since I was very skeptical at first.
