Sadly, as it is, if we were to go at it in such a way, we'd be fighting our own family members. My younger son and I are no longer on speaking terms. I couldn't imagine having him on the other side of anything that might arise. But an enemy of the Constitution and its prescribed processes is exactly that.
Sorry to hear that. He might come around one day. I thought alot different 25 years ago than I do now. Prior the the AWB I probably would have been considered anti-gun. What amazes me is the breathlessly agonizing telephone call he made to me when we were still speaking. Not that I want to get into this but I have one like that. We became enemies before the election in early 2016. He was an HRC supporter and a supporter of everything I am not.
Spent a lot of time soul searching and what I could have done differently. At the end, I made peace with it. Still bothers me at times but I now view him no differently than any other enemy. I have cut him out of my will and my life.

Same with our daughter. We have dramatically different belief systems. It's a direct result of the educational system that she grew up in. She's 30 years old and she made the choice, not my wife or myself. We're busy spending her inheritance, there will be nothing left for her. On the one hand, I love her dearly. On the other, she made her choice and she gets to live with the consequences. I have to be realistic and accept the probability that she is probably happier this way. That relegates her to being just one of over 8 billion other humans on this planet that I really don't have any connection to. Do I wish it was different ? Of course. OTOH, I feel wronged and I actually feel as though I am due an apology. I'm also realistic enough to know that is not likely to ever happen.

Oh boy have I had that feeling before. My daughter is 95% with me (maybe 90%), at times she says something and I just think "where in the hell did that come from".
It isn't that I expect my kids to do as I did, and think as I thought. Wow, I'm sorry to hear of the family issues here. I feel extra blessed right now after reading about you guys and your issues. My kids are 22 and 20 and have their heads on straight, maybe even more than I did at their respective ages.
My daughter says she is seeing a growing movement of young people moving away from liberalism...hopefully it's bigger than we realize!
Maybe your kids will mature and come back to you guys. If you raised them with a good foundation, they might just need to try on this identity for a while. Don't close the door on them!
