I've been reading around here about people asking for spotting scopes for somewhat cheap prices that will see .30 caliber holes at 600 yards. I'm not too concerned with that because I will be shooting steel targets from here on out. I'm just looking for a spotting scope between $75-200 that I will be able to see misses that hit the dirt at 800+ yards. I shoot in the desert so that's all I really need to see is wether I missed left or right.

How about using and extra scope and mount it on a tripod?

Look for a used Redfield or Bushnell Spacemaster on Ebay or Craigslist etc. You want a 60mm objective. The Redfield kit with 25x and variable eyepieces and compact tripod in aluminum carry kit is especially nice. Figure around $250. Redfield was Japanese built and nicely armored, very comparable to Kowa 612 etc. 25x eyepiece is superior to variable for lowest image degradation...

Kowa with a wide-angle 20x eyepiece is better choice, but talking much more money...

Good luck! Bushnell is a good choice too.

A bit unorthodox I know, but in your price range, a bigger bang for your buck will be with astronomy and wildlife glass. Apparently nerds and hippies have smaller pocketbooks than shooters.
