info needed for 5.7x28mm bolt action rifle.

Re: info needed for 5.7x28mm bolt action rifle.

I have a lot of 5.7x28 and its a pretty inexpensive centerfire round for me to purchase. The pistol shoots really well so I figured a rifle would make a neat little rifle. FN was supposed to have a factory rifle chambered in 5.7x28 a few years back. I guess that never got off the ground.

Kinda like a 5.45x39 bolt gun. </div></div>

A decent little 5.45x39 bolt plinker would be a fun gun, IMO. It would make tremendous sense for CZ to come out with a companion rifle for their 7.62x39 model - 5.45x39 is cheap enough these days to go plink with at the range and not feel the wallet pain. 11 cents per round at current prices is pretty hard to argue with.

Re: info needed for 5.7x28mm bolt action rifle.

there will be extensive gunsmithing work with the 5.7x28 seeing that the head dia is the same as the 25acp. Your smith will have to bush the boltface and put in a sako style extractor in a size they dont make anymore, and with all of that, it may eject if your lucky because of the placement of the ejector in a 700 bolt.
That is for a rem 700 bolt, if you can find someone making an action to accept a .310 boltface, your good to go

Re: info needed for 5.7x28mm bolt action rifle.

It isnt impossible, infact its very easy. I thumbed through my midway catalog while i was on the pot, and noticed Shilen has replacement 700 barrels in 5.7x28, and Score-hi has single shot followers in, guess what, 5.7x28 caliber.

Find a generic 223 700 action, pull the barrel and there you go.

However, like I said, its a exercise in futility.

A pistol/sub-gun designed cartridge, does not a good rifle round make...

Along the same train of thought, Let me know how many 9mm bolt actions you find...

How would that work? The 5.7x28 has a base dimension of .313 and the .223 base dimension is .378.

Oop, i forgot the all important rim diameter.

You could give PTG a call and see if they'll do a .314 bolt face, replacement 700 bolt.
