My rifle is currently at a smith for a pillar bedding job. 700SA in an McM A4. I've been thinking about picking up a Badger M5.

Does inletting for a Badger M5 affect a standard pillar bedding job on a stock Remington bottom metal? I guess what I'm trying to ask is, am I wasting money on having the pillar job done now, if I'm going to buy an M5 very soon?

Yes, I think so. Badger is thicker than Rem BM, and the Badger pillars have to be the right length so that the mags feed correctly. I'd say wait on the pillars/bedding until you decide on the BM. Also look at Surgeon and CDI, all 3 are nice pieces.

Re: Inletting for Bottom Metal Question

We machine stocks for Badger M5 bottom metal on a regular basis. Most have all ready been bedded or pillar bedded. We have mill routine programs written for many of the more popular bottoms. We will usually mill out the stock before bedding. I like to see the bottom metal fit nice and flush with the stock. Because the distance between the bottom metal and the receiver is critical we will on occasion, set the barreled action higher or deeper in the stock to make sure that distance is correct and the bottom metal sets nice and flush. We also modify a lot of H-S precision stocks with the aluminum bedding block. It is all done on a CNC mill and it turns out very nice. The cost for this service is $75.00
