I just installed my rail on my new Remington 700. I put the front bolts in, no gap in the rear then repeated the process on the rears (removing the fronts) and there was no gap either.. perfect flush fit.

I used the included torx screw-caps in all 4 mounting holes and snugged them down to about 15 in/lbs.

The bolt is very hard to operate, loosen up the rail screw caps and the bolt throws freely now.

why would this happen and what can I do to install this new NF base? the base seems to be true, straight, etc... rifle is brand new...

thoughts?

One of the front screws is sticking through and hitting the bolt lugs. If you have one screw shorter then the rest it needs to go all the way up front.

Remove the bolt and feel up there with your pinky, you'll be able to feel the screw sticking through.

Oh, if all screws are the same length, you'll need a file or a dremel (or even sandpaper) to take a little off the front screw. If you can still operate the bolt then it's not sticking through much, I've seen way worse where the bolt won't even close.
