Guys, I know one of you has the answer or advice. Over the years I have amassed a sizable investment of firearms. It just occurred to me that they are not specifically covered on their own rider. I inquired with my State Farm Agent, of 15 years, and she couldn't advise me very well, other than she'll research it.

Basically, I want to insure all of my weapons, at replacement value, especially the custom stuff. So, is there a particular insurance company you guys use? I'm afraid my long term agent may not underwrite my intent properly. Thanks in advance!

I've been thinking about the same thing....especially when the total value of my weapons can buy a few luxury cars.

I just hesitate to list all of my weapons on a piece of paper for one reason or another. They are all legal but I'm sure that I have enough to make it on some kind of list.

Maybe I'm being too paranoid....

Cool, thanks for the input so far guys. My agent has yet to get back with me, guess she has to elevate this to regional. Doesn't seem like she's well versed in under writing such a policy.

Re: Insurance for Fire Arms

Long story short. If you do not have reciepts take them down and have them appraised and then take that to your insurance agent.
Make sure your covered for theft and damage.

I went through this awhile back for one gun. The rest I was money ahead on if the insurance only paid the average value.

Re: Insurance for Fire Arms

What if the $10K only covers 1 though. My homeowners only covers $5k

I just called my insurance (Farmers) thought I had state farm for some reason.

They said that they need a make and model of each firearm and they would cover it with a rider on my home.

Any reason not to list the the makes and model's with Farmers?

She said don't need serial numbers but if I wanted to add them I could.

Re: Insurance for Fire Arms

I asked her about tools, since Snap-On isn't cheap and she said don't worry about it as it falls under personal property.

I am going to look that one up though, you can spend allot of money on a tool box. Let alone what goes inside.

Re: Insurance for Fire Arms

Each state is different... I have statefarm. In TX, you get $2500 basic firearms coverage with a homeowners policy. I upped it to $5000 by paying like $2 extra a year... Then, I have a seperate policy for 1 custom 1911 that is high dollar. It costs me like $6.91 a month... That 1 gun is covered for breakage, loss and theft.

I looked at the NRA, but for me, it made more sense to do it this way.

I was also told by my Starefarm agent that scopes and gear affixed to firearms are NOT considered part of the firearm. so, that stuff would come under your regular home owners policy... So, you needn't add that into your gun $$ total...

Re: Insurance for Fire Arms

Would the NRA cover the whole rifle and scope etc?

No need to insure a 300 dollar used R700 if I have thousands invested in it...

I'm with state farm as well, and they have a rider that covers sporting goods, firearms are listed specifically on the list of items covered. You have to provide them with a detailed list of your firearms complete with serial numbers and what not, not sure what they do with the list, but the insurance is dirty cheap. I only need $6K of coverage since they over cover $2500 with the homeowners policy, and it's something like $23 a year. It's great piece of mind to have, especially when you have a sizeable investment in your collection.
