Interesting CTD news

As much as I would like to see CTD get fucked, every single person that purchased anything from them did so under their own free will and should have known they overpaid.

My feeling too that CTD didn’t owe stupid people anything. However, it’s my understanding that they were increasing prices from the time the item was clicked to go to the cart, to the time it got to the cart. The cart showed a higher price than the item page. And if that’s the case, a good kick in the nuts and jail time would be good for those sorry POS.

Gun owners:
The government shouldnt regulate guns.

Also Gun owners:
Guns and ammo is too expensive, the government should step in and do something about it.

Maybe its all the new progressive gun owners applying their liberal logic of wealth distribution because they didnt have the foresight to buy more guns and ammo prior to now.

In which case they deserve to be guoged as a penalty. Call it a stupid tax.

Taxes are bad mmkay...

seriously though, there is over-reach and then there is market manipulation by bad actors. Where market manipulation occurs, the market, by definition is not self-correcting. The idea that CTD and other manipulators are simply 'making a buck' is rather simplistic.

Anyway, fuck CTD, never have or will buy from them.

No. This is not that. As stated before. This is because they changed the prices mid transaction, not because they raised prices

Making these manual 'real-time' price changes caused confusion for consumers because the prices consumers saw on the website pages when selecting items for purchase were different from the prices that appeared in the final check-out cart," the AG's office said in court documents.

need To post this multiple times it appears

All the Hoi Poi and plenty on here will be going on about how great this is and how they hate CTD and they are glad to see the government "do something" to somebody that is not popular.

BUT the sheeple saying how great a thing this is, have no idea that this is a huge government overreach that will result, the same as all government messes, in there simply being nothing for anyone to buy.

Price hikes help balance out the supply and demand by incentiveizing both sides depending on what is needed.

But all the sheep can rest easy that the government is "protecting them" from the horrible thing of "paying too much" by making sure nobody can buy anything just like happens every time.

Again, this is not about price hikes. Thats free market shit. This is about custoer clicks to add a product to cart that cost 500 dollars and continues shopping. after completing their shopping journey they go to checkout and the price is different because they were raising them in real time and updating peoples carts. This is not about shit costing to much. this is about shitty business practice and ripping people off.

This is not about price gouging, read the complaint. This is about prices being changed mid-transaction and existing 9rders being cancelled for no reason only to be honored at higher prices. That's illegal, not price gouging.

Maybe so BUT here is what the article linked to specifically says:

*******

The Texas AG's office has identified ammunition as a necessity and, as a result, is arguing that those price hikes were against the Texas Business and Commerce Code. The code forbids businesses from "taking advantage of a disaster" by selling "fuel, food, medicine, lodging, building materials, construction tools or another necessity at an exorbitant or excessive price."

Additionally, the following weekend that Abbott issued the disaster declaration, Cheaper Than Dirt manually raised its prices outside of its normal schedule.

********

Now perhaps someone would like to link to the actual criminal complaint and then we can see, but from the article it seems pretty clear that the AG office declared ammunition to be a necessity subject to government regulation...

Then they also added a second thing about people were upset about display prices vs. the price on the checkout screen
(I mean Amazon does the same thing to me if I leave something in a cart for a day, the checkout price may be different than what I saw it as, so ???)

that just makes it even BETTER.... I love ammo being seen as a necessity...

you just like to bitch... a lot...

It may sound nice, BUT when something becomes a "necessity" that the government has the ability to control because of some "emergency," generally it's a very slippery slope right into the government deciding who can get what and how much and who can sell what and how much and at what price.

I like to warn people even if they don't like listening because as the saying goes: "The road to hell is paved with good intentions".

everything is a slippery slope. If you want to live an existence devoid of authority then Somalia has some great coastal real estate and truly entrepreneurial folks.

There has never been an instance of this country's existence where there wasn't governance. If you distrust your own government, in any capacity, form or scale then you remind me of those black people who get all caught up in cultural appropriation while they wear trousers, use phones, fly in planes, eat beef etc... you benefit from govt. it's not a bad thing to recognize that the markets are NOT perfect, do not correct perfectly or in a timely manner and intervention, when people like CTD behave they way they do, is necessary.

When people are buying up all the supply then marking it up 400%, it’s profiteering not “balance” . In point of fact what we are seeing with all this panic buying and profiteering it an outrageous imbalance. It is a very dark side of the gun community.

In an ideal capitalist system, gun folk would run these profiteers out of business themselves. But like fat kids in a candy store they have no discipline or self control.

Lol, profiteering.

Its basic supply and demand, as with anything.
Low supply+ high demand = high price
High supply+ low demand = low price

Market value is what people are willing to pay.

Its not like they are artificially manipulating the market by hording it in warehouses only allowing a trickle to actually make it to market.

“Equality outcome” what a jackass statement. It never fails to amaze me how gun owners with bend over, pull their britches down and even supply lube, then say thank you sir, can I have another.

I am a capitalist. I run a small e-commerce. I have to play by certain rules and pay taxes. I also have some good old fashioned Christian ethics. If that makes me “bad” in the eyes of vultures, so be it.

I am a solid supporter of 2A and a I have always supported a vibrant economy around our cause/sport. I don’t see what is happening every 4 - 8 years as healthy or good for our cause/ sport.

I agree these things should be taken care of in the free market. The problem is that they are NOT and I personally feel we are paying a dear price for it. It feels like a dark sickness.

SO what is the answer? I don’t know, but it sounds like CTD was doing some shady stuff other than just stupid prices.

If you distrust your own government, in any capacity, form or scale then

Those that take the time to study history and are not wearing blinders, ALWAYS distrust the government on every level.
EVERY government has always eventually turned on the citizens or at least some of the citizens.

Think of the government like fire.

We use fire all the time, it's in use all around us and has been an integral part of our civilizations.
But the moment you "trust" fire instead of rigorously keeping it in check, including proactive making sure it can't get out of check in the future, it will turn on you in an instant at try it's best to destroy you.

The founders of our country fully understood this and that is why they put in so many checks and balances, as firebreaks to slow down the inevitable corruption of the government into evil, which is why we still have the last vestiges of our freedoms on display instead of loosing them for good a generation ago.

I've noticed you enjoy your blanket statements and high-level catagorization 'those who do X vs those who do not'. You also like to create zero sum outcomes in your views. If you do not mistrust gov then absolutely gov will....

There is no experience of this in the real world with the consistency you reference. Not EVERY govt turns on its citizens. SOME do, but a lot don't. We've had the longest running constitutionally based system of govt in modern history. The West, despite Nazi Germany/ Fascism in Spain/Italy has had the most stable systems of governance in their regions entire history. A fool would deny the role of the welfate state and elements of the liberal ideology to that success - both vehicles of a democratic govt. as opposed to any other ruling mechanism.

Denial of degree is applying roughshod and shoddy thinking and seeking wisdom in platitudes and generalizations.

You mock the meat you feed on.
