“Slowly but surely the male citizenry is becoming emasculated to the point of utter helplessness. Sliding along, content in their weakness, glorying in their inability to do things. Proud of the fact that they’ve never been taught to use their hands.-and blind also to the fact that they know mighty little about using their heads.
Work-honest, decent labor, skill of fingers, accuracy of eye-somehow it seems beneath the present generation.”

“Modern Gunsmithing” by Clyde Baker written in 1933

When I read this I almost chocked on my coffee.
I guess the problem has been around a while.

Actually, there are a great many parallels between 1933 and 2012.

Greed dominates the business world.
Corruption dominates the political world.
The rise of socialism.
The loss of individualism.
National largesse.
Yellow journalism.

Re: Interesting excerpt from an old gun book

Those old gun writers had a lot of wisdom that would benifit us today if we would pay attention to them.

One of my favorites is Captain Edward Crossman, and his book "Military and Sporting Rifle Shooting" 1932.

That old boy doesn't cut us shooters any slack when it comes to rifle shooting. He was really hard on those blaming the rifle for their shortcomings but injoyable reading and informative.
