No, we know it won't do much. But, most don't care. It is about emotion vs logic. Our society has been losing that battle for a long time, especially since the mid-60s. A left-wing pundit recently admitted that the main difference between left and right is empathy vs reality.

its similar to the logic of child safe medicine bottle caps, studies have shown they have actually lead to more child fatalities than before they were implemented. but hey no politician wants to be caught "implying" I dont want to prevent medicine related child mortality or "bad" guys from being able to get "evil" weapons.
