I've been loading a long time and never seen anything like this.... once fired new Hornady brass in my 28 Nosler hunting rifle. I went to process the brass and felt/heard a clunking sound in the case.

The video explains the rest..... anyone ever seen anything like this? I checked the rest of the lot and nothing..... guessing I need to buy a lottery ticket!

I think I'm going to send this to Hornady next week to see what they think.

Is that brass? Magnetic?

I cannot tell from the picture or video.

It’s a piece of brass that got left inside after case forming because of poor QC. Search case manufacturing on the net for a video of the process and you’ll understand

This, it's another piece that got in there by accident during manufacturing. Not a separation; all that piece would have done is take up case capacity. I bet you'd have found it from the start if weighing cases. On that note, how much does that piece weigh?

I get that's it's clearly an artifact left from the case forming process...... it obviously did not blow up and I'm not freaking out over this, just wondering if anyone has ever seen anything like it?

I weighed the individual piece, what's was left of the cut open piece and a similar once fired.... +/- 13 grains for the artifact and only 3.72 difference in total case weight makes me wonder what the total variation of the 99 remaining cases.

I'll weight sort them for total variation and post the results later..... got more shooting to do for the next couple days.

It happens, but you hope it doesn't happen to you.

Guess I would screen all of that stuff. Bummer it puts the burden on you.

Thanks for posting it.
