Saw it last night with the wife! Excellent movie, incredible special effects, something for everyone.

And they did the VFX on a pretty tight budget! It just goes to show how going back to the days of careful planning and execution can lead to world class artistry without blowing up the budget and making people work 80-100 hour weeks for months on end. Unfortunately the way we do it now they don't plan shit carefully, constantly change the plan, rarely know what they want and would prefer to just make everyone work themselves into the ground. Sigh.

At this point, it seems like everyone in my generation of the VFX biz is looking to pop smoke...me included. I might just start taking a year off at a time and do other things - it can be such a "I fucking hate this shit! / goddamn, I miss that shit!" job.
