Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is David I am a Narcotics Investigator for our local Sheriffs Department. I am just getting back into long range shooting, I haven't looked through a scope since 2004 in Iraq when my Squad Leader took my M-4 and handed me a M-24 and said you are our designated marksman see if you can figure this out. I got through the deployment "successfully" but never thought I would pick up long range shooting as a hobby. Well I was wrong, I recently was bitten by the bug, and I am now putting together a rifle. Just thought I would introduce myself, I'm sure I will be asking you guys a bunch of question so bare with me. Here is a list of what I working on, please feel free to make suggestions.

Rem 700 SPS Tactical .308 Win
SS 10x40 side focus I only have $500.00 budgeted
HS M-24 stock adj LOP and Cheek
Tactical Rifles Bottom Metal
Haris Bi Pod

Welcome to the crew here

I got the same rifle and my newest groups were .217 and .319 @ 100 yards.

The SPS Tacs are great rifles for the money and how well you can get them to shoot.


Are you going to reload for this rifle?

Yes I will be reloading for this rifle, any pet loads you have would be appreciated.

I run

175 SMK
44.5gr Varget
Win Brass trimmed @ 2.005
CCI BR-2 primer
COAL 2.800
FPS in 45* temp 2560 and @ 70* they run 2600

The last 10 rounds gave me .217 and .319

I have the exact same scope on a Rem700. Works good for me out to 500yds, farthest I can shoot right now. Welcome to an expensive habit!!!
