Anyone who has ever worn an Ear-Pro or Communications Headset under a helmet knows it sucks. It’s a necessity, but it sucks. The head band digs into the top of your head and pinches your temples; causing an annoying discomfort that can, at best: make you uncomfortable during a training class, and at worst: take your mind off the mission downrange. For many shooters, this problem was solved when helmet rail adapters were developed for electronic headsets. But, this only helped the population that sported Peltor COMTAC’s. What about those that ran MSA Sordin-based systems?

Enter the SARA: Sordin ARC Rail Adapter from Iron Forged Concepts. Like all good design, it was born of necessity by an innovative shooter with a helmet and a headset. The SARA is a simple drop-in replacement to the Sordin headband and neckband stems that will interface with the proven Peltor Helmet Rail Adapters. These precision machined parts are user-installed with simple tools in about 30-45 minutes. They require a minor dis-assembly of the ear cups during installation. Once installed, the SARA’s accept the stems on the Peltor COMTAC Rail Adapters, allowing you to mount your Sordins directly to your helmet’s Ops Core ARC or Team Wendy Rails. The added comfort this provides cannot be measured and you will wonder how you ever ran a helmet with a headset jammed underneath.

SARA’s are user-installed and available for both Over-The-Head and Behind-The-Head units. The modification is not permanent and the headset can be reverted to its original configuration at any time.

Tools Needed for Installation: Knife or Razor Blade, H15 Hex Bit (Screwdriver Head), Torx T8 Bit, Lineman’s Pliers (or similar) with diagonal cutters, Split Ring Pliers (90deg w/ 0.036? Tips).

Installation: Installation can be tricky if you do not have the proper tools. Do not half-ass it. If you do not have the proper tools, go get them. TNVC and Iron Forged Concepts are not responsible for damaged headsets during SARA installation. Each package comes complete with 4 SARA’s and 4 extra Split Retaining Rings (in case the factory rings are damaged during dis-assembly). The Neck Band version also includes two ESS Posts. For step-by-step installation instructions, please check out this awesome video from Firelance Media:

Basically, the SARA is the best thing to happen to the MSA/Sordin headset. These U.S. made parts will completely transform the way you run a helmet with COMMs. The more comfortable your gear, the better able you are to maintain situational awareness. This will help you have more fun in the field during a hunt or stay alive in the field during a fight.

Please note: SARA’s are adapters only. They still require the Peltor Helmet Rail Adapters, also available from TNVC.
