I've always been a fan of having some secondary sights on my hunting rifles. I've had a couple of scopes fail over the years and I like the idea of having some emergency sights if that happens again. I might not have a second rifle in camp. It might be fifty miles or more back in the boonies. In the past I've had room for a back sight just in front of the front bell of my scope. I have Leupold long base mounts on all my big game rifles. By loosening the one windage screw I could twist off the scope if my scope goes bad.
I just bought a new Vortex 4-16X50 scope. There just isn't enough room to leave that back sight on.
I was thinking of mounting some type of back peep sight just below the back bell of the scope....if there is room. I was wondering if that is doable. I guess I'll have to have a gunsmith look at it. I know Redfield used to make a long base mount about forty years ago that came with a folding peep sight. I had one, but lost it somewhere.
I sure like the looks of these forums. I've been a hunter since the 50's but I have a lot to learn about long range shooting. This is my first post. Thanks for your help.
