Way ahead of you
Looking at a fairly high-dollar used optic here, and was thinking of having the seller ship directly to the manufacturer with an RMA for a Q/C and turret upgrade if necessary.

Or should I just have them ship to me and take care of the RMA with the manufacturer myself?

Good idea, bad idea, pitfalls?

Hi,

So are you talking about having the seller go through the manufacturers procedures to get the RMA along with handling all the communications and desires to the manufacturer for something you may/may not want upgraded??

Sincerely,
Theis
I'm not sure I'd consider a scope who's first stop needs to be the manufacturer. That doesn't sound like a deal to me.

I am handling all the communications with manufacturer, no burden on seller other than to put the RMA in the box and ship to manufacturer instead of me.

The scope may or may not need the upgrade per a discussion I had with a member here who loves theirs, and the manufacturer agreed to Q/C it and do the upgrade for free before I started using it. I thought I'd save a step and maybe some time, but I haven't dealt with this kind of thing before, and was looking for some opinions from people that had more experience than me.

From what I've gleaned here, all scopes eventually might need some work, and I thought sending it right to the manufacturer would start my usage off on the right foot. In addition, if the manufacturer Q/C's it before I beat on it, thought it might give me better leverage with the seller to work something out. Just trying to cover my ass.

I appreciate everyone's feedback, and will instead have the seller ship to me, and I'll handle the RMA.
