    I was looking at a Terrapin X (I once had a Terrapin)...

What else it out there that is under $3000.00 and has all the useful bells and whistles?

    GB

So the answer to this turned out to be the vortex 5000 series binoculars...

They do seem to work pretty well, and the only problem I actually had with them ended up being heat related vapor trails.

When I was able to range across flat terrain with the target in the distance, even in bright sunlight, it worked great.

If I ran into a condition where there were rolling Hills in between the target and my position, the heat related vapor trails would obscure the target to the point where I wouldn’t return distance.

I can’t really say that I’m surprised by that but they do work pretty well.

I wish to hell they didn’t use a CR2 battery; I CR 123 is much easier to find.

    But they work great.

The glass is definitely not as nice as my old terrapin or my Sig kilo 800...

But it does have a Applied Ballistics and can we got at a reasonable price if you look really hard...

I got the sig kilo 3000bdx, been playing with it since its my first range finder. Definitely a short learning curve but theyve been turning out accurate numbers off bales out to about 1800 yds. Its nice when theyre on the side of the road and you can double check distance with Google maps and the truck odometer

OP, do you want good glass or just good LRF performance, or both, do you want monocular or binocular? What is your budget? Do you need it to connect to a Kestrel or have any internal ballistic solution? Providing the answers to these questions helps us help you/others.

Yes... everything. Not more that $5k.

    ;)

But I ended up with the vortex for the time being… If the Northrop Grumman ones ever show up in operational form and then I’ll probably sell the vortex.
