Is their anything different about the cocking piece on a j bolt, have been messing with a j bolt rifle for a month was wondering why the trigger was inconsistant,presume replacing the shroud and firing pin spring will cure this.

The firing pin of a j-lock system has a notch that a ball (if you will)engages and has been suspect in lock-time issues. I am not sure that you would notice this as a "trigger inconsistency"!
I'm sure someone will chime in and inform us both.

You have to replace the whole firing pin assembly. (Shroud, cocking piece, f/p, f/p spring).

J-lock assemblies have a kinked f/p spring that drags inside the bolt body. Look at your trigger to fix a trigger pull issue, but replacing the J-lock f/p assembly is a good idea.
