JBS meat packing plant Ransomware attack

Anyone hear about this? First and oil pipeline, now the largest meat producer? Kinda fuckin sus

    From the article:

“The world’s largest meat supplier, JBS Foods, has been crippled by a cyberattack, the company announced, the latest hit to an already rattled supply chain that’s sent food costs soaring at grocery stores and restaurants.

As a result of the attack, large US and Canadian meat plants canceled shifts Tuesday, threatening to disrupt meat supply and further inflate food prices.”

Given that the NSA can record every phone call in America... they know where these are coming from and can probably send in a bunch of pipehitters to kill everyone involved.

    Mess with a pipeline? Meh.

    Steal an election? Meh

    Fake Russiagate? Meh

Hang Epstein in his own cell? Meh.

Interfere with my dinner tomahawk steak cooked Pittsburgh rare with some Cajun Blackening and raw horseradish topping with a baked potato, sour cream and sauteed mushrooms.

    Kill them %$#@ing all!

    I bet that BLM's GO-Fund-Me won't be touched...

    Sirhr
Of course not. I bet it’s because they didn’t change their Facebook profile picture to a rainbow logo for pride month 😂😂😂

Actually word on the pipeline is it wasnt even a ransomware attack on the pipeline infrastructure. they attacked the HR software. The CEO sgutdown the pipeline because he wanted to
There official statement when it first happened was that they themselves shutdown the pipeline for precaution and that the hackers didn’t do it.

I wonder what computer program the meat packers use to butcher cattle? We do it all by hand around here. This is all to drive up prices men.

Receiving, shipping, and payments in and out, for a start. Anything dealing with a product has a massive logistics and finance side of things, and that's all managed electronically. Even the soccer mom selling handmade bracelets on Etsy can't run their business without a computer.

Their system's SCADA wasn't hit. The attack was on their billing software. They couldn't track the quantity of oil delivered to a client and bill them for it. It was about money, not the ability to deliver oil. The CEO shut the pipeline down.

I love mushrooms, but on a baker?!? Save it for the steak, Sir. :)

You can't really get away with saying something only started happening now when it's been happening Administration after Administration, Democrat and Republican, for years now. Have a lite beer bud, you sound touchy.
it isn't that any administration has this sort of thing happen more than another,
solarwinds hack was willfully installed onto servers by the customers because solarwinds was hacked. not exactly .gov at fault here.
the difference is the response. xiden punished russia by shutting down the keystone pipeline, removing sanctions or objections to the nordstream 2 project, bought oil from iran (a russian partner), and is withholding military aid from ukraine (again).
you're an asshole and everyone knows it now if they didn't already.

This didn’t happen when we had a real president, nobody’s afraid of Pedo Joe, he’s spineless and people will exploit his weakness.
I don't think he is weak at all, or they, rather. They bold face stole an election, got caught, and nothing happened. That isn't weak, no.
    That's power.
They can't be exploited if they are in on it. Don't think of hiden as a weakness, their machine is oiled and steaming down the track. The train will be stopped one day, but it's still steaming down the track as we speak.

Start coming up w alternative food sources. I think it's going to be a problem.
Next is going to be water issues.
i can read it now, So and so got into Atlanta's, or other big city, main water computer and fucked it up, no water,
    It's coming...
I'm glad I'm in Florida, I can live like a Seminole and be perfectly fine, prolly better...
    I'll have a better suntan...

Scripps hospital got hit last month also, the ransom was for 8mil.

most people don’t realize local governments get hit by ransom ware all the time and pay the ransoms. It’s pretty absurd

pedo joe got millions from both chinamas and ruskies. he is basically owned by them and that is why they aren't afraid of him.

I guess I didn't look at it that way, you're right they pulled off the biggest fraud in US election history and laughed all the way to the White House. But he's just a puppet for their agenda, the man himself isn't strong enough or smart enough to come up with this plot.

$5 says that the packers will be paying less for cattle while they run the prices up on you. Down 27K head on slaughter today...can't be buying near as much (lower prices to ranchers). Then there is the traditional supply and demand curve on their other side of production.

JBS will be fine. It'll be everyone else that gets screwed.

Let em lose, then they’ll be forced to find a real solution to their security. In the meantime, buy your meat from a local farm & small processing company

We are witnessing "probes"... Small potatoes.. Give some thought to what would win the "Gold Metal" for a hack... Only then will you get a sense of how catastrophic it will be. Let your imagination run wild.
    Is this wild enough?

This is a buying opportunity for the Chinese and every other country that imports beef....

Livestock carrier is a type of ship which helps in import-export of cattle and sheep. Since countries down under have extensive ranching areas for cattle and other livestock animals, the export of these animals generally occurs from Australia and New Zealand to United States, Canada and various other countries in the world. MV Becrux is the largest livestock carrier in the world.

The brain-child of the Italian shipping conglomerate Siba Ships, which specialises in the operation of livestock carriers, MV Becrux was launched in the year 2002. At that time – and even today – the cattle carrier commands a unique respect of being highly sophisticated ship and a true engineering marvel.

The uniqueness of the cattle class ship stems from the fact that the ship has been specifically customised according to the company needs. Built at the Uljanik Shipyard in Croatia, the live stock carrier boasts of a cargo carrying capacity of 20,000 cattle or alternatively, 60,000 sheep and goats.

Ransomware attacks are nothing new. They've been happening for some years now and are only getting attention from the media since the attacks have been happening to massive companies with real economic pull in certain fields. They happen because companies are too cheap or too stupid to update their anti-virus software and their employees are too stupid to spot funky shit within emails and will click on things just because. A company I worked for in the New England area a couple years ago got hit with one. I think it was an inside job since one of the company executives left in disgust about the direction the CEOs were taking their company. Rumor has it, it was his final parting gift since he was going to a direct competitor. That direct competitor has since gained a strong foothold in their territory. We'll hear more about these as time goes on.

I’m just going to point out that the two high profile events of late have been on industries the leftist socialists want to eliminate in the New Green Deal. A hack can be made to look like it came from anywhere, but I find it funny that the things causing the most pain are hated by the left.

    Easy fix for cybercrime:
We track them down and try them and give Saudi Arabia the job of punishment.

    Done in 30 days tops.

(oh but wait- this requires a president with balls)

Oh yeah. There is an amazing amount of infrastructure with zero security beyond "isolation". That isolation is point to point radio, easily intercepted and manipulated. No encryption, no hard-wiring, nothing. Simple repeater station parked in the middle and you can do easy but catastrophic things like shut down sewage to a neighborhood or city.

I think, SCADA RF hacks have been done from as far as 10 miles away on UHF. Lots of critical infrastructure is unprotected. It's not expensive to install security measures yet, it's not done. People are idiots.

I guess, this is the right place to post this one. Are any of you familiar with the details? The targets were the cooling jackets covering the large step down transformers. Once breached, the oil coolant leaked out and the inductors overheated.

PG&E implemented serious security measures after the attack. The "team" returned to the site after the new security was in place and executed a second successful attack. The second attack got very little media... as you might imagine.

(My knowledge of weapons is really limited. The rounds were said to be 7.62x39. That's Eastern Block stuff. The only rifle I've fired using that round was an old SKS. To put 100+ rounds into those transformers from a distance, what rifle might be used?)

    Metcalf Sniper Attack

After a lot of looking, this was the only reference I could find to the second attack. The reports have been scrubbed from the web. And, this one's behind the NYT pay wall.

they interfered with meat production hunt them down and skin them alive on national television to prevent that from happening ever again they should slaughter there families as well even the pets it would send a crazy but direct message .pipe lines are one thing but meat that means no bbq's someone has to die .  :devilish:

Isolation is the best security. When you have to put boots on the ground to accomplish your task your asking for trouble. To do what your talking about you would have to gather the hardware, put it in place, research the hardware and software, come up with the right code to accomplish your goals. That’s a lot of exposure for a small amount of reward. Sitting in your basement in another country with all the time you need is a lot easier. That’s why it would be extremely hard to hack the grid , it’s isolated very well along with a lot of other defenses that I will not mention. The easiest way to take down portions of the grid is with boots on the ground. There have been attempts at it but they were neutralized in their infancy, but you will never hear about that. Cyber attacks are not new but the problem now is a lot of companies have traded individual systems for things like billing, accounting, maintenance planning, parts procurement, purchasing, payroll, logistics, environmental, HR, process management, and a lot other industry specific programs for an all encompassing system and now when they get in there in to everything. Most companies had specialized programs for their core business functions that were highly modified for individual use, this makes it more difficult to hack because the hacker has to get the program and figure out how to make it do what they want. With the integrated systems like Microsoft and others there cookie cutter.

I will say one thing, with industry consolidation, resource and system integration you end up with a lot of your eggs in one basket and this and the pipeline proves it out. About 10-15 years ago the Mississippi River was flooding and almost every rail crossing and port was shut down. This went on for over a month. Guess where all the east cost solid fuel power plants get their fuel from, from down or across the Mississippi River. East of the Mississippi was fixing to have rolling black outs because all the coal units were running out of fuel. I say always be prepared but the real vulnerabilities are out of sight to most and the perceived targets are not really that at all.

Aside from being the face, Biden had nothing to do with any of that.

it is often difficult to convince the penny pinchers of the value of data security until it is too late.

Wife was a restaurant manager until retirement. The owner lived out of state and also owned a computer security company. About six years ago she told him she thought their system had been breached and thought they should upgrade. He called her and said he had checked the system (remotely) and everything was fine. Less than a month later she called him and said out system is locked and they want 50K. He was outraged and asked HER, "How did this happen?" He paid and immediately upgraded the system.

Does anyone remember the WikiLeaks thing where it said the CIA, DIA, NSA whatever can make a hack look like it came from Russia, Iran, Romania, etc???

While I agree that various three-letter agencies can indeed perform powerful acts of technological wizardry, we need to be careful of shifting the blame away from Russia just because some leftist shills want to blame everyone on that country.

If I were a strategic adversary intent on launching "grey zone" attacks against the US, I could hardly ask for a better environment in which to conduit business.

Of course that won’t affect the Richie riches. They’ll still just fly. But at least it’s going to affect some of the Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket set. Not quite as good as shutting down the tofu plant. But at least a good start.
