I am going to school in nashville and one of my classmates dad came to visit and we were kicking the shit and got on the topic of my Long range TR and his dad was telling me about this broken marlin that he didn't know anything about and that he really has no intrest in the gun. I figured he was trying to sell the gun but me being me was like "since it's broken just give it too me and I'll give it a loving home" I was shocked when he said "yea I'll send it back with Alex over Thanksgiving break". Well I got home yesterday and my buddy is like "hey I brought that gun back for you" So I go out to his truck to get it and what I pull out is not a marlin but a JC Higgens Model 31! I'm all about something different. The wood is ok, the barrel doesn't have any rust on it, the crown is good, but it looks as if one time the charge handle was broken off and someone rigged it with a hardware store bolt. I wanna get a new bolt and possibly reciever and try to bring this back to it's once glory and share with my kids.
I have noticed the butt stock is a bit different than the other onese i was looking at. Mine has a metal plate in the area where others have the retractable sling

Today I took it apart and cleaned the hell out of it and I'm not sure it's ever been cleaned. Well I went to try it out and see if it worked fine and got down to my range(only a 5min walk) the bolt wouldn't rack a round. I noticed the bolt that was put in place for the charge handle was hitting the reciever so I walked back up to my house and ground off some of the diamter where it was hitting until I had clearence. I racked a couple rounds and went out and tried it out. I was shooting at 80yds free standing and btw this is the first time in a long time I've shot without a scope not to mention freehand without a scope.
Manged this out of my first mag tube and man it was fun. I don't know why I stopped iron sighting. I love this thing!
