Hoping to get some ladder tests done this weekend but want input and opinions – even bad opinions.

JP 6.5Cr Barrel, 22”, about 350 rounds down the tube. The gun started out a sub moa laser with factory ammo, but since it has sped up 40-60fps the factory stuff is at best 1-1.5moa.

I worked up a load with 130ELD-M thinking it would be a good alternative to 130Bergers. The load worked great at 40gr of Varget 2851fps, 10.8SD, 55F, and .040-.050” jump (magazine length COAL 2.835”). However, Hornady’s G7 is a lie as the bullet sets out a parchute, anchor, and sail at 5-600 yards. Litz’s custom curve confirmed this. Beyond 600 I could hit steel better with Hornady Black. Lesson learned – download the custom curve of a bullet before you buy it.

So now I have a ladder for 140 Berger Hybrids loaded up to 44gr of H4350, but don’t plan to go that high. They are so long they have about a 0.110” jump to the lands loaded at magazine length. Is this even worth shooting?

I plan to load some 140ELD-M’s up. They only have about a .040” jump and are cheaper. Plus my LR partner uses them and we’d end up with twin ballistics.

I have some 130VLD’s I bought before I knew the difference. I figure they won’t like the jump to my Semi Auto Chamber and don’t plan on using them.

I haven’t found any 130 Hybrids. The Federal Match 130Hybrid ammo at 2850-2880fps shot like crap in my gun when new, but I bet they are using a 4350 speed powder . I found an awesome node with 130ELDM and Varget at 2850fps so maybe Varget and 130 Hybrids would hit that same node that the Federal Match did not.

The prime 130 perform well enough out to 1050 I can’t justify reloading for my rifle. The semi auto is to hard on brass for me to justify it. Unless of course it’s a match with good prizes.

Hopefully you have gotten this worked out. Generally speaking, accuracy from a JP and most AR10 platforms can only be helped a small amount by tuning the jump (imo). My experience has led me to the understanding that gas guns tend to like lots of jump compared to bolt guns due to the chamber needing to be less tight so as to function properly. I run a JP 6 Creedmoor loaded at 2.765 with 107 SMK and the gun runs flawlessly. The jump is close to 0.13. I tend to work up loads with 10 Round Load Development Ladder Test and my SDs are around 5 fps.

If you're trying to print 100 yrd groups it might be a different story but from a tactical/PRS standpoint 3/4 inch groups seem to work.
Hope that helps.
