Precision Rifle 1: Introduction to Precision Long-Range Practical Rifle

October 6-8 (with special guest, Larry Correia)

This introductory course lays the foundation for long-range practical shooting and is intended for students with little to no experience in the discipline. The curriculum includes, but is not limited to:
  • Equipment setup
  • Gas gun vs. bolt gun techniques
  • Optics selection, setup, function and use
  • Reticle holdover vs. dialing techniques
  • Ballistic software, data collection and external ballistics
  • Rifle zero procedure and zeroing
  • Building a data card out to 1K
  • Basic precision shooting positions
  • Basic wind doping in the natural environment
  • Proper lasing of targets
Prerequisites: None.

PR-1 is designed for new students with foundational firearms knowledge and proficiency. To get the most value from the class and not impede the instruction, all students should be familiar with the rifle brought for the course and have a solid background in firearms safety. Ammo usage will be about 100 rounds per day.

Precision Rifle 2: An Intermediate Course for Precision Long-Range Practical Rifle

November 10-12

This intermediate course builds upon the existing long-range shooting foundations to cover more advanced techniques and positional shooting. Instruction involves more in-context shooting opportunities and covers the following curriculum:
  • Verification of rifle zero and data out to 1350 yards (equipment permitting)
  • Advanced optics and external ballistics
  • Reticle techniques
  • Refining data, wind and atmospheric density data
  • Advanced compromised position shooting
  • Scanning and target detection techniques
  • Natural terrain shooting from canyon rims
Prerequisites:
  • A zeroed rifle and basic data
  • Solid understanding of ballistic software
  • Ability to zero a rifle and shoot a 1 MOA or smaller group from the prone position
  • Familiarity with your scope such that you can find and engage a target in less than one minute
PR-2 assumes completion of PR-1 or equivalent long-range instruction. Only one day will be dedicated to verification of zero and data with the remainder of the shooting focused on application of new skills on the canyon rims. To get the most value from the class and not impede the instruction, all students should be very familiar with the rifle brought for the course and have a solid background in firearms safety. Ammo usage will be about 125 rounds per day.
