Got a 700 rem in 300 win mag. Just picked up a new ziess 6.5x20-50 conquest. Never delt with ziess and was wondering what is the lowest ring size i could get away with using a 20moa base. I built the rifle to punch steel from 600 to 1000+yards. I have read that ziess does not have very good internal adjustment, but the glass is awsome. (which it is very clear.) If you need pics i can do. Any info will be much appreciated.

not sure... You could chrono your load...then do the math for 1000 yards... then see how much up travel the scope has...Make sure you keep your maximum adjustment (1K dope0 off of the top of the glass...

Re: Just a quick optic question

To determine what ring height to use for the bell to clear and stay as low as possible... use the penny method.

As long as you have the mounting bases installed, you can stack pennies on top of them until your scope is at the height you want it to be. Then just take that dimension and check out your preferred ring manufacturer specs on different rings.

You get instant feedback, and you will only have to buy 1 set and you are done!!

Re: Just a quick optic question

I would think you might want to try a base with more than 20moa cant. I've had one of those scopes and it didn't have much elevation travel... I would put as much cant in that base as I could, while still maintaining a 100y zero...

As to how much that is, I can't help you there.

Re: Just a quick optic question

Thx to all for the info. using one piece weaver tac 20moa base with med weaver tac rings. solid as a rock. not zeroed yet but will keep ya'll updated as to how this goes. Dont know if i will need to go with more cant on the base yet to get to 1000yds. or if in fact the weaver rings and base will hold up to the thump of the 300win.

Re: Just a quick optic question

Well, you won't need 40moa to get to 1000 with a 300wm - so if you can zero at 100 you'll be able to reach 1000.
