Looks like its mounted on the side of the stock to me...

Yes it is, but it's at the chamber end, it's not very tight and I hardly use it

Yes it is if you look at the lower right side of the picture. You will see the shell holder above the barrel. it is the same pattern under the scope.

If you are talking about the scope pic, it's actually in focus, there was just a 105 degree 20mph mirage blowing that day.
