just ordered a xray-51. Just got off the phone with mike over at tac ops. hell of a nice guy, he spend a good hour or so personally with me to help me figure out the best rifle and features for what i planned on using it for etc.

look forward to recieving the rifle, i have confidence the wait will be worth it!

after reading about, and seeing the attention to detail he puts in his rifles, including the precise machining i had to order one!!

Congratulations on stepping-up and ordering a Tac Ops <span style="font-style: italic">jayjay</span>. As you're now aware, Mike Rescigno really takes his time considering the customer's needs, discussing build options, and spec'ing the build to fit the customer's requirements.

It will be more than worth it. The first time you see your X-Ray in person you will know that you made the right decision, and every trip to the range will bear this out further.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: jayjaytuner</div><div class="ubbcode-body">after reading about, and seeing the attention to detail he puts in his rifles, including the precise machining i had to order one!!</div></div>
Although I try, my photos cannot do Rescigno's weapons any justice at all. No matter how much you hear or read about Tac Ops extreme accuracy, insane attention-to-detail, or incredibly precise machining tolerances you will still be amazed when you receive your rifle.

<span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">Short true story:</span></span>

I was down at my favorite local range (Angeles Shooting Ranges), and another Hide member, <span style="font-style: italic">Series 70 Colt</span> came over to check-out my X-Ray 51. Series 70 Colt shoots a custom M700 with a Badger M5 in .308. I had just loaded 3 rounds, and noticed that Series 70 Colt was taking a break, so I asked him if he would like to fire a few rounds through my X-Ray. He replied <span style="font-style: italic">"Sure"</span>.

I watched as Series 70 Colt fired the three rounds into a small hole from the 100 yard line, and after he stood up I asked him what he thought and he just replied <span style="font-style: italic">"I like it".</span> When I asked if he would like to shoot more he replied <span style="font-style: italic">"No, I already have glass envy and I don't want to make it worse"</span>, or something very close to that.

When I was packing up to leave I retrieved my target frames and got a closer look at the 3-shot group Series 70 Colt had fired. The hole made by the bullets measures .500" edge-to-edge, so that is actually .192" CTC, which is below Tac Ops .25 MOA guarantee. I think Series 70 Colt did pretty well firing 3 shots from a rifle which until that day he had never seen or shot before.

Congrats again on placing the order for your X-Ray. Once you receive your rifle the waiting time suddenly won't seem so long at all.

Ah, one of the most popular questions posed whenever someone posts that they have ordered a Tac Ops platform. A question that on the surface seems innocolous enough and that, <span style="font-style: italic">for one reason or another,</span> always comes up whenever Tac Ops rifles are mentioned. Still, it is a fair question that I will do my best to answer again, and I hope that this thread will remain civil and on-topic.

First of all, Tac Ops does not build cookie-cutter rifles or have weapons or suppressors sitting in inventory. Each and every Tac Ops piece is personally hand-built by Mike Rescigno after an order is placed. While typical delivery time is 12 months, the timeline can and often does vary due to supply-chain influence.

For instance, after all details are worked-out and a deposit is submitted with an order Rescigno orders long lead time parts such as McMillan stocks, which typically require a 6-month lead time.

Another time-killer is often the bottom metal. Williams floor plates are often used in lieu of the factory bottom metal, and it is becoming increasingly common for Williams to repeatedly push back their delivery time lines. <span style="font-style: italic">Sorry, Matt.</span> I know for a fact that production of a couple dozen rifles (including my X-Ray) was delayed last year when when Williams kept changing the delivery date.

Williams makes great products and supplies large contracts, but it took more than 20 weeks to deliver a bottom metal order that was originally quoted at 2 weeks. Thats' a tenfold increase in lead time for a crucial part, because after Rescigno completes the machining he checks all metallic parts before sending them to Birdsong for coating.

<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">After</span></span> the barreled actions and floor plates are back from Birdsong, Rescigno fits them to their respective stocks. Each stock is tagged with an info card that contains specific build-related data including customer name, order date, rifle model & caliber, action serial number, and any other specifics such as special floor plate engraving designs, ect.

Filling, sanding, smoothing, and fitting are all done prior to bedding. And after bedding is completed all the screws are timed. All this is completed before Tac Ops trademark heavy texturing is applied. Because the texture is applied in multiple stages, requiring curing and sanding between each application the texturing process alone takes a quite a while.

Putting aside the fact that Mike Rescigno personally hand-builds every Tac Ops weapon and suppressor, that those products possess the most demanding machining tolerances, extreme attention-to-detail, most impeccable fit & finish, and are personally test-fired and certified by Mike Rescigno to .25 MOA or better accuracy using factory ammo (FGMM) I consider a delivery time of 12 months very good, but expect to wait longer.

Tac Ops has supplied more than 600 agencies worldwide, including many alphabet agencies such as DEA, DOE, USSS, LASD SEB, Hawaii's SSD, and the Royal Canadian to name but a few.

Here are two quotes from <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">palmik</span></span>'s <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">TacOps order placed!</span></span> thread posted one week ago when a similar questions was asked:

No problema, Senor. PM me for a lead on a S & B 5-25X Gen 2 XR CCW - <span style="font-style: italic">(yeah, baby!)</span>, as I know the whereabouts of one such specimen but chose to buy a second "German" PMII 5-25X Gen 2 XR and have S & B convert the turrets to CCW. Thats' what I did for my X-Ray 51's scope. Sort of a PITA, but the CCW conversion was worth it to me.

Re: Just ordered a X-ray 51

Are you guys building a rifle or having sex. Its hard to tell. I have guns built by Speedy and Stick and they shoot. Yes attention to detail is what makes a good smith but this is extreme. My guns shoot 1/2 min at 500 yds or less a .192 for 3 shots is not what accepted for record. What is the 5 shot group size.

Re: Just ordered a X-ray 51

You like that quote, dontcha Keith?

Having ZERO experience with custom rifles, I thought it was kind of a bold maneuver on my part to order a TacOps rifle without actually shooting, handling, or seeing one in the flesh. However, I feel like I made the best choice I could have possibly made. I knew of his rifles for a few years, but until a couple of months ago, I never read any customer testimonies or saw any pictures that did them any justice other than from Mel on snipercentral.

Although they still cannot fully capture the craftsmanship of Rescigno's work, Keith's pictures of his new X-Ray 51 were the best I have seen. Those pics, along with Keith's eloquent raving review (and replies to my PMs) are what inspired me to give Mike a call. Just from talking to him, I can tell that he makes a sick piece of equipment without even seeing the product. It did not take long to see that he is not a salesman; he tells it like it is, sans sales pitches and fancy advertisements. He is passionate about his work and it shows when he talks in passing about the intricate details of machining, which is completely over my head. He did not sell me on the rifle; he did not even attempt to. It was the rifle that sold me.

I am proud to have banked on a TacOps rifle, as I truly feel that Mike is one of a kind; a prodigy. To reiterate one of my former quotes, from all I have seen and heard from multiple sources, I believe that Rescigno is the Hattori Hanzo of custom rifles. Congratulations on the order jayjay.

Re: Just ordered a X-ray 51

The worst thing that could ever happen is that Mike hands you one of his rifles to look at. Then you go to order one and wait. See the thing is you know now what the rifle looks like, feels like and then you have to wait. With all the stuff going on in the past year with Williams and of course Birdsong has added more time to the wait. The good thing is it looks as if Mike will be able to get the times back down. So hopefully your wait won't be to long ( I mean more than a year).

Oh yeah bro, you ain't walking out of that ordeal in one piece. It would be shameful to walk away empty handed.
