David Tapp, Richard Crouse and I recently had the opportunity to go down to K&M Precision Rifle Training. Between the three of us we have shot many matches around the southeast and out west and their place is one of the nicest areas I have ever been. Shannon and Bryan were kind enough to show us around their new shooting center and do a little shooting. While we were there Shannon shared with us their goal is to bring what you see at some of the big name matches to the southeast and to minimize downtime. Another goal is to keep the round count much higher than what is normally seen around the southeast.
Shannon met us at the pavilion which as you can see is top notch. Behind us is the shooting tower and a covered shooting area. This area lends itself to some very creative match design which should be very interesting not only for the Panhandle Match but also for the K&M Precision Rifle Competition in March.
From the pavilion area Shannon took us over the other property. From the pictures you can see they are still moving dirt and working extremely hard. Actually, they got us straight on shooting then went back to work. We did more shooting that day than I think even they have been able to do.
Having two separate properties (about 3 min apart) will help with the down time. Within the two properties it is further divided which allows for several different squads to shoot at the same time further diminishing down time. Expect to do more than a few yards of foot travel on some of the stages!
In closing Shannon and Bryan have made a serious effort to grow our sport in the Southeast. K&M Precision Rifle Training will quickly become one of the premier shooting centers for long range. I think they will have tremendous success with their matches due to high round counts, minimal down time and creative stage design. It wouldn't surprise me if you start seeing some west coast guys at their matches.
