Had a chance to shoot the hell out of this rifle this weekend.
It's a great shooter and the E3 bolt is a really great design.
I shot 300 rounds of XM855 and it didn't have one issue. Once I got used to the ambi bolt release I could release it with my trigger finger pretty damn fast.
It's not the most accurate gun, but I wasn't shooting the most accurate ammo. I was able to shoot about a 5" group with surplus ammo. (XM855 & 55gr ball all surplus). I did manage to shoot 50 77gr from SW ammo and it did much better with 3-3.5" groups. It's accurate enough for a 'battle rifle'. I was using a Leupold 1.5-5 scope which I reviewed in the optics section. (Great scope by the way)
Recoil is very light and follow up shots are easily done. My crosshairs barely even moved off target.
I shot 150 rounds suppressed and it functioned perfectly.
The only dislike I have about this rifle is the non standard parts (bolt, extractor, springs). I could see how it would be easy for someone to drop the mag when trying to work the ambi bolt release. Easy fix is just don't use the ambi release if you have trouble dropping the magazine.
I think it's a better design, but it sux if you need a new bolt. I emailed KAC about ordering all non standard parts. I have yet to hear back from them. I assume they sell spare bolts, ect for the SR15.

I have put 3000 rounds total through this gun, mostly surplus, and I can't recall one issue I've had with the gun. It's built like a tank and has great features. If you can get over the non standard parts I think it's a great gun.

Re: KAC SR-15

Contact Casey at Lawmans or jump over to Silencertalk and check out the KAC section.

Dont know if they ever did it but there was chatter about a "Feild Repair Kit" of some sort to include things like spare bolts being sold through Casey...this was a few years back so that may have never happened but worth a call IMO.

The two I have had time with (my former rifle and one my buddy owns) they like the 62gr stuff.

Re: KAC SR-15

Kevin Schmalz from Lawmans got me fixed up.
Great guy and responded back in like 15 minutes.
Took a while for KAC to get back with me, but they finally did.
The parts are sky high ($140) for just a firing pin, extractor, & extractor springs.
Kevin said KAC sets the price and he can't do anything about it.

Might as well have the parts on hand incase I need to replace them. I can't believe you have to buy the whole 'kit' if you just want a new extractor. I might be wrong here, but it appears you can't just order an extractor or extractor spring(s).

Re: KAC SR-15

Email I got from KAC. I don't see where you can just buy the extractor and springs without buying the kit.

The attachment shows the components of the parts kit we regularly stock.
As you can see, the only “AR standard parts” included are the firing pin retainer, ejector assembly and the gas ring set, but their cost is inconsequential to the total kit cost.
So your best bet is to order the kit “as is” from our web store.
The bolt is a different issue. Because of its longevity and cost, we do not include it in our kit.

However, we are adding the bolt “fully assembled” to our new catalog as SR-15 Bolt Assembly, P/N: 20434.
So if you buy this part, the only standard AR parts will be the ejector assembly and the gas ring set.

Thank you for considering Knight's Armament.

Re: KAC SR-15

Didnt come out right, what I was saying was that the parts not standard (ie proprietary) was the extractor itself and the springs. As indicated by the email you received suposedly the firing pin is also different but I'm puzzeld as to whats different about it.

To be fair KAC does things right where others would cut corners but there is a price that goes along with that. Somthing as mundane as an extractor can add a surprising amount to production costs when you consider that they had to spend money for the MIM moulds just to start...assuming they are MIM i dont know for sure. They could have easily opted to not redesign that part and buy the part from a readily available source but that wouldnt really be much of an improvement to the AR platform.

I guess another way to look at it is that they looked at ways of improving the common failure parts so in theory you shouldnt have a need for spares. Frankly I think along the same lines as you that I would want them on hand "just because".
