I have a Sadlak mount on my SA M1A Loaded and would like to have the option of switching between irons and scope. While I am nervous about making a permanent modification to my M1A's wood stock, the Karsten Adjustable Cheek Piece looks to be something to fit the bill. Has anyone else put one on their wood-stock M1A? If so, how do you like it?

EDIT: Does anyone have any pics of a SA M1A with the "A" model on a wood stock?

I don't know about that brand, I think it is the same as the one from desert warrior that I put on last week. Mine has a cheaper synthetic stock that came on it from Springfield armory. I like it,so far.

I thought about one of those also, but heard they would move,or roll on the stock. I hated to drill, but I wanted it to be solid.

I thought about that, but rationalized that I wanted something a bit faster and more convenient when switching from irons to scope and back. As for the drilling holes, I have a USGI stock that I can put on if I want to return it to the "natural" look. I'm not too much against drilling the SA "Loaded" stock.

Contact Andy @ SEI down in Tempe, ask him about the new cheek rest he had a SHOT.

Easy on... quick off for irons - no holes in your stock and it's much lighter than the Karsten kit.

while drilling two holes in a stock seems like a big deal
you have to ask yourself two questions

do you want to look at the gun or shoot the gun?
do you want to resell the gun or shoot the gun?

after drilling my mcmillan a5 and wondering what did i just do
i will never shoot it without the karsten cheekrest again

i use the "B" model... it only takes a minute to remove
and no big knobs to deal with

that said i purchased a fiberglass stock for mine to experiment with...it has the buttplate metal as well as the metal sling loops
i no longer own the m1a and would sell this cheap
that way when you fuck up ...... oh well
