Damn good coffee, better than anything off of the big island. Very hard to find in CONUS. I thought at one time Bad Ass Coffee was getting beans from there.

Cheers,

Doc

Re: Kauai Coffee....

Peaberry is d'kine.......

There just needs to be a 3rd lane pull off with bleacher seating coming out of the tunnel on H3 at abut 0700. A little locomoco and peaberry overlooking K-Bay....... get you good and ready to hike the sacred falls.

Yeah, I miss it too.

Cheers,

Doc

If I recall correctly its inspired by the flash hider on a Steyr AUG. A friend was machinging them for the TPD AXR and made one for me that had the flash holes all the way around instead of just on top so I could use it as a thread protector and not worry about indexing it. It rarely gets shot with the hider on there as I enjoy shooting it more with the suppressor on it. But I only have one rimfire suppressor right now so it usually rests on my 77/22.

I don't know how hard it is to find, never looked. My little brother was in Kauai at the end of 09 and bought it for me.

Aloha Shoyu is found locally HERE! The big 1L bottle too! Now if I can just find da kine oyster sauce. The Chun King or whatever that we got, oh man FUNKY! Tastes like Vietnamese Fish Sauce!
Now if I could get a pound or two of that local's only brew... </div></div>

Vietnamese fish sauce is the bomb. I have it every other night or so on my dinner.

Re: Kauai Coffee....

You probably like Balut too, huh?

A good oyster sauce should have a very mild fish flavor but not a blatant, overpowering, fermented flavor. Of course a really good fish sauce on the other hand should knock you on your ass with the scent alone from days of sitting on a hot thai or vietnamese sun baked fermntation farm(I think I just grossed myself out with that one)

Re: Kauai Coffee....

I always have someone bring me back a pound of Lyons Kona blend when they come back from Hawaii - good stuff LOL

For now it's san francisco organic - grind for 11 seconds- PERFECT cup of brew.

I'll put starbucks to shame any day of the week

Re: Kauai Coffee....

One of our mechanics used to live in Honduras. He worked on large cranes.
Anyways, he brought back a metric shit ton of coffee and he brings it to work with him everyday. I tried it once, and it was amazing! Wish I could get more.

Re: Kauai Coffee....

My girl spends about 4 days in Hawaii every other week for her job, after reading this thread I'm having her pick me up some of the Kauai next time she is there, so I should be experiencing the coffee in 2 weeks.

Tree bark tea is better han folgers..

I'd drink instant before I touched folgers -

Folgers used to have a 3lb can, average price between $7 and $9 - OK.

Suddenly the can is 3/4 the size for a few months, now it's HALF the size and the price is $9 per 1.5lb

F that - I can buy GOOD bean for that.

So Will sent me Honduran - it's SMOOTH...

Try the San Francisco Organic coffee (NOT French roast) at Costco - that's Smooth coffee as well, pretty decent - grind for 11 seconds, NO MORE!

(Seattle has it's perks)

Re: Kauai Coffee....

As I sit here and read this post I am sipping on a cup of Kona Mountain Coffee Peaberry Dark Roast. Before I came here all coffee tasted the same, ,99 cent MCDonalds or $4 Starbucks all tasted the same to me, but this Peaberry is in a class by itself. Its all I drink anymore.

Oh yeah,,,,, I'm going to use that one.......Thanks.

And the Folgers comment was just to get people going. The only thing worse than the "F-crap" is this brand of no-name that we have up here called "Red Circle" or something like that. Open the can, and it's a 'lighter brown' than any coffee I'd seen. Tastes like "Rusty-Muffler Condensate". At least how I'd imagine it would.

Copy that Switch. It's been showing up in the Commissary pretty regularly and I even found it in Food Lion once! I've still got a goodly quantity from the last "group buy"

of the other sauces. Nothing like Shoyu to marinade meat in, I even made some soft jerky with it this year. The gold is, well.... GOLDEN! There is even a Hawaiian Diner here in VA Beach. They need to work on their gravy for Loco Moco but other than that their plate lunch is just like home.

Cheers,

Doc
