Kel-Tec SU-22 opinions?

Re: Kel-Tec SU-22 opinions?

I got a SU-22 on the cheap recently.

It has a hard time cycling any ammo other than federal bulk, that included CCI mini mag, which I have never seen before. After 500 rounds the gun is filthy and starts to have malfunctions. The breakdown and cleaning is a pain. After 500 rounds it usually takes me about 2 hours to get it clean. The accuracy is ok... I can hit a clay pigeon at 100 yards.

I've shot about 5k rounds through the rifle so far. All and all its a good plinker but I wish I had saved my money and gotten a Sig 522.

Re: Kel-Tec SU-22 opinions?

Main reason I was interested in the SU-22 was weight and size. If I carry a .22LR back into the woods for fun, there's no reason for it to be the same size/weight as a centerfire. I know a lot of guys buy the rimfires for low-cost training with similar configuration as their centerfire. I'm just looking for a stand-alone, compact, lightweight .22LR that can be thrown in a pack for hiking, etc and I'm not too impressed with the offerings from Henry, Marlin, etc.

My su-22 is very lightweight and compact, especially with a C style stock and red dot:

If you are just looking for a packable plinker, the su-22 will fit the bill. Just be prepared for lots of cleaning.

I've had a ton of fun with this rifle. Especially with my 50 round drum
