Kestrel elite vs AB app

Ive been using the AB app with litz custom drag for my bullets on my phone at matches. I am wanting a kestrel to simplify getting atmospherics and a solution for Prs matches. Does the kestrel elite do anything that the AB app doesn't do other than getting its own atmosphere?

I am also curious what people with the kestrel elite find themselves looking at to see there solution during a match, ie: letting the app retrieve atmosphere from the "linked" kestrel and putting in target data on your phone and getting your solution on your phone, or just doing everything on the kestrel unit and only using your phone/app to set up gun profiles.

ultimately im trying to decide if i want to pay an extra few hundred dollars to have custom drag on the kestrel when I already have it on my phone for 30$ or so? ... talk about a tacticool tax.

The elite:
- has all the custom drag models currently available, so you don’t have to purchase new CDM when you want to test other bullets unlike the AB Mobile app. The CDM is updated regularly.

- It’s a stand alone unit so you don’t have to rely on your phone. Which I like that thought. Also say you update your phones operating system, there could be software glitches due to the OS update and AB Mobile. I haven’t personally had that issue but I know that TRASOL had issues like that.

- It’s “ Rugged (drop tested to MIL-STD-810G standards), waterproof (sealed to IP67 standards).”

I have AB Mobile, Kestrel Elite, and AB Analytics.

I haven’t had a single issue with the Elite out to 1000yds with my 18” 6.5creedmoor. That’s as far as my PRS club shoots. BUT personally, I want the Garmin Foretrex 701. I want the wrist mounted solution. I’ve never used one or used one in a match but i believe id be fine with a cheaper kestrel and manually updating atmospheric into the 701. But the whole reason I like the Elite is because I don’t have to do that. So I’m in a bind with that.
