KG GunKote vs Ceratoke

Which is the more durable product?
I am not doing the work myself, I am having an experienced coater do the work, so my question does not pertain to application at all, simply what is the better product. Price is not a consideration either, when spending 5G on a rifle, I don't think a few dollars here or there matters. Also, co lour selection doesn't matter as I am going with flat black.
So, in terms of wear resistance, longevity and durability, what product would you go with?
Thanks in advance.

Re: KG GunKote vs Ceratoke

Ive got a question about Cerakote.

In the motorcycle industy we use ceramic coatings on exhaust systems to keep the heat in so to speak. My question is, does Cerakote slow down the cooling of the barrel at all becase of the ceramic mixture in the paint?

Cerakote is more durable. I use a lot of KG Coatings GunKote and it works just fine in many low wear applications but I believe the Cerakote is more durable.

Re: KG GunKote vs Ceratoke

284WIN, Cerakoat is by FAR the most resistant PAINT on the market, i was using Duracoat with great result (also, duracoat better than Gun Coat) But cerakoat is more wear resistant... Ask your gunsmith to paint the wear part's (bolt body, bolt handle, safety, thigger) with H cerakoat, the rest of the rifle can be done in C ceracoat with no prob... Who will paint it in canada ?? He should know that anyway... the H series is about 2 times more resistant then the C series because it is baked ON with a hardner...

no, the BASIC paint will resist 1200F but will NOT keep heat, as chrome plating can do, actually, the C and H series CERAKOAT help a LOT in heat dissipation, used some time for radiator to cool faster, engine block, drum brake etc..
they have other product for exaust purpose, called THREMO-DYN,it is used to paint OUTSIDE of the exaust this paint is the V series, the last product they have for INSIDE of the exaust is INSULCOAT for interior wall of exaust systeme, this is the W serie paint

Hope it help both of you

It perform very well, C is more wear resistant than duracoat,it is also more dull, as for rust, i can't say, Cerakoat and duracoat are excellent against rust but on PAPERS, nothing can beat the H series for rust and H series is FAR FAR ahead for wearing part's, with duracoat, you see some scratch few shot after (bolt or pump), with cerakoat H, forget it...

The very BIG PLUS for cerakoat C series is that you DON'T have to mix hardner for it so when finished, filter and put back the paint in the jar, with duracoat, you have to mixt hardner and paint so when the job is done, trash it...

No. Cerakote is not the same as high temp ceramic coating. Yes the same company NIC makes both but Cerakote is specifically made for weapons use and is different.

Yes I use it at times, and if it slows down cooling my hand can't tell the difference.

Agreed.
Duracoat is not even as close to being as durable as gunkote, its really not that much better than a glorified Krylon except for the fact that it is more solvent-resistant. I've seen duracoat peel and bubble off of a hot AR15 barrel.

Another thing to keep in mind depending on your application is that KG gunkote is a lot thinner than cerakote. Therefore gunkote can be used for parts that need to be reassembled without having to worry about tolerances being too tight. Cerakote is definitely more durable though.
