Ok, so I work at a gun store, and a guy walks in and asks me if we do consignment, and he tells me he has a Kimber Det-1 with tan colored/textured grips, the issued light, and all the paperwork. When he opens it up he won't even let us touch it because he insists it is worth "five figures." However, the ones I have found on the Internet are for sale for $5k-$7.5k and they aren't selling. What would be a realistic price for this handgun? This is assuming the serial numbers match up after we verify it with Kimber. I dot believe the owner of the store will take it in because we simply don't have the market for it. I am looking for a realistic number to pop this poor guys bubble with because he is probably going to be pretty pissed when we tell him it is doubtful that it will sell anywhere near $10,000 if we could sell it in the first place.

Thanks,
Troy

Re: Kimber Det-1 Value?

The only way to do something like that would be consignment, too big of a risk otherwise. IF Kimber can verify the SN to truly be a DET-1 gun than the gun is worth some real money. However, on things like that, the gun is worth only what one will pay for it.

If you found the right guy, a collector maybe, the gun might pull the 5k price tag or more. However, I would say the chances of that are slim, especially given that you have found them for sale online with no takers.
