A buddy of mine has a Kimber Pro Carry Stainless 45 ACP for sale (not the Pro Carry II). How much is one in excellent condition worth? Is this a good solid 1911? I know it has a 4 inch barrel.

I am trying to decide whether to get this gun or save up for a STI Trojan or STI Ranger II.

What are your thoughts... Thanks..

Re: Kimber Pro Carry..

I would say 7-900 depending on conditon, as they can be bought new for about $950. Several factors apply...is it a I or II series? Some people prefer one over the other. II has the Schwartz integral safeties a lot like the Colt 80's. Is it a Clackamas or Yonkers roll stamp? Clackamas guns bring more money and will be series I. I have a Ultra Carry II and a Custom I. Kimber makes a good pistol...its not Wilson or Les Baer but they are good well made 1911's. The Ultra Carry is my every day carry gun. I would rather beat up my $900 Kimber and leave my CQB in the safe. The Kimbers do need some break in time....they say about 500 rounds. I just run them real wet for the first 100 and cycle the slide as much as my wife can put up with when they are new to seat and mate things...they are pretty tightly fitted. That has done fine and both have shot without a hiccup...probably have 1000 rounds down the ultra.
