I make knives part time and would like to make one to send to a soldier in Afghanistan or Iraq who needs it. Can anybody on here provide me with a mailing address to a unit? I don't know anyone over there, I just want to help a soldier get his job done and get home in one piece. The materials & putting it together are no problem, I'm not asking for that, I just need a good place to send it. The only thing I'll ask for in return is to know who gets the knife and how he likes it.

Re: Knife for a soldier

Here's a couple. I don't have any pics of the "tactical" stuff I've done. These are premade blades that I finish & then do the handles. I don't have the $$$ for a proper grinder right now, so I'm doing these. There is still a helluva lot of time in them. I make sure they're worth using and not some Pakistani POS. The leatherwork is mine. All hand tooled & hand stitched. Switchblade, I don't know Kim Breed, but I do enjoy his articles & I'd be curious to know what he thinks about these.

Switchblade, Victor, it looks like I'll just have to make 2. Both of your buddies sound like they could use a knife. PM me with mailing info & how you would like their names & units stamped on the sheaths. I'll be sure to post pics as soon as they're finished.

For blade shape, I like this one:

It's a beautiful piece, too much so for a guy ike me. Utility is what I dig!

A grey chipped or uneven surface handle in micarta or other tactical material would be what I like.
I could see the blade with no shine, and that handle style in black kydex.
It's not that I don't like tanned leather or anything, I just like black heavy duty stuff.

Now that I think of it, I don't own any beautiful knives. Mine are all utility. Hmmmmmmmmmm....... Barbeque Knife? Straight polished rectangular skinner handle in Hawaiian Koa wood maybe with a very high polish to the blade and hilt.

Koa or Acacia Koa, an ancient Hawaiian wood:
