Taken at their/his word. this could change/help many other situations i.e. irrigation ponds/canals. Any type of open water storage really. Cooling the water and limiting evaporation being the largest byproduct benefit.
I can't be the only one thinking ? .. Helping Easier to dispose and hide the bodies .

There's a video somewhere of monsanto rep stating that roundup could be drank. He sounded convincing until asked if he'd take a sip on camera.
How many people drank out of the cancer causing bromate laden reservoir before they discovered the problem? Who's to say they got it right this time with food grade balls? But it's OK cause everyone was all smiles in the video.
Maybe we shouldn't be so ready to accept what we're told is safe.

someone needs to explain why you would store filtered water, and not filter it as it leaves the reservoir.
I wonder if those food grade balls have to be labeled with the prop 65 warning?
What a scam! Here is a clue CA. Quit tearing down dams! Store more water. Many of driest areas of CA used to be inland sea. Dam them and refill them.
