The range where we shoot and test new loads used to permit us to shoot at distances to 500 yards. At 500 yards, ladder testing provided enough vertical dispersion to get a pretty good idea of where the best node was.
In response to noise complaints by some of the locals, the range recently restricted long range shooting to 300 yards. At 300 yards, the ladder is more "compressed" and determining the best node is more difficult.
My question is this... in your experience, does 300 yards provide sufficient distance for ladder testing, or should we move to the 100-yard range and start using the OCW technique?
I appreciate your input.
