You are going to get opionions all over the place on this one. My personal protocol is to lap every pair of rings I mount and have found even the most expensive rings have improved contact after lapping. I like knowning that the scope is not being torqued by misaligned rings. Many here will tell you it's a complete waste of time. I know what works for me.
